Are iPads and iPhones bad for our children's health?

Hello! I’ve been away from Steemit for quite some time because I have to take care of my very ill niece who was confined at the hospital for five days. Her name is Nicole Marie Zaballa. She’s six years old and was diagnosed to have pneumonitis. Before this, she had been hospitalized twice last year and another one early this year with pneumonia as diagnosis. Her mother, Ella, who is my sister was admitted at the hospital to give birth to her second baby and it was simultaneous with Nicole’s confinement. So, I have to take care of Nicole.

Before Nicole was discharged from the hospital, the doctor who was a pulmonary specialist talked to me about Nicole’s condition. He’s worried that the little girl had been repeatedly diagnosed with pneumonia. Then he discussed with me about the bad effects of using iPad, iPhone, and androids to our health specially the kids who are exposed to gadgets for very long hours. It seems that nowadays, ipads and other high-tech devices are used as electronic baby sitters for toddlers and kids not realizing that they are toxic to our children’s health. The doctor has observed that there is a tremendous increase in pneumonia cases in kids unlike before when iPad and other gadgets had not been invented. He also said that Autism, ADHD, leukemia and other kinds of cancers have also increased in the population of children since the technology of these gadgets became popular. The doctor advised that Nicole can still use her iPad but it should be 8 inches away from her and she can use it for until 2 hours a day only.

Another sad news was that the newly born baby sister of Nicole, her name is Isabelle, stayed in the hospital for more than a week because she was also sick. Her mother, while she was still pregnant was using her iPad very close to her tummy and so we concluded that it could be the reason for the baby’s illness.

I also have nephews in Japan, their names are Kohei and Takuro Takagi who were also hospitalized twice this year due to pneumonia. So, I told Irma who is their mother and my sister about the doctor’s observation on the harmful effects of iPad on kids’ health.

As of now, we are taking precautions and limitations on letting our children use the high-tech devices. Yes, we know that modern technology is amazing and advantageous but we should also be aware of the negative effects that it brings to our children. When the doctor informed me that the late Steve Jobs, the boss of Apple, didn’t let his own grandchildren have iPads, then I have realized how badly it could affect our children and grandchildren who are the future builders of the world.
