Thaipusam@2018 Experience
As part of our annual practice, we go to Batu Caves on the eve of Thaipusam, between 7pm to 2am. Why, you might ask..the grand kavadis will start to come in between 9pm to 5am, and we like to get glimpse of the astounding decoration of the kavadis along with the devotion of the people performing their vows.
This year was unique experience, we got to Batu Caves from Damansara in 30 mins, which use take us 1 hour++ every other year previously.
The traffic was slightly better organize by our RELA and Traffic Police force. Kudos! I must also say the people turnout wasn't as impressive as last years. There seemed to be a reduction in turnout overall. (just my observation)
As soon as we walked in there was the most awaited speech by other fellow "GOMEN" well they had to make their presense felt among the thousands of people coming there to pray, with louder speakers planted every corner of the area( toilet too). They wanted to ensure their pitch is heard by every voter/non voters/to-be voters coming there.
There was diplomat from Korea, speaking in Korean language while a translator translated them. (if you have been to Batu Caves on Thaipusam you would have an idea what i mean. Super crowed with people and musics, drums.
A short Video while i was there.. real short one.
As the night went on the crowd increases and it was a beautiful scene with people and shops. There was a mini fun fair on the side with shops of sarees and beautiful art material.
The celebration in Batu Caves goes on for a couple of day after Thaipusam, so if you are looking to go "look-see" minus the crowd and congestion, today and tomorrow would be a good time.
Enjoy!
@namchau It seems like you're having a good moment there.
PS: Yesterday's Thaipusam was very unique, as the super blood and blue moon appeared. It might be a good sign for the festival :)
Thanks @wilhb81. Yes, there were some mixed views on it, some claim it was not good to be out as the radiation was critical. Some were indicating as it was all good. aahhahaha
