The Mews EP #2: Australian Musician Talks About the Malaysian Music Scenes

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

Gabriel Lynch is an Australian Singer-Songwriter now based in Malaysia. He has completely fallen in love with the Music Scene here in South East Asia. From Bangkok to Singapore and eventually settling down here in Malaysia for now, he gives us his thoughts on how we can be a better community.

The Poppy Syndrome
There's a saying when a Poppy grows too tall, all the others try to cut it down.

Gabriel uses this analogy in his description of what mindset the Music Scene has. He also references that he has noticed this in pratically every scene he has been a part of. So does this problem lie deeper than we feared?

What we should do when our peers are more sucessful?
Gabriel suggests that it is great when our peers grow taller than us. For when light shines on a singular Poppy stem, the entire plant will flourish from the light:

When people start paying attention to someone in your community, they also explore the others within it.

Summary

We should completely enjoy and celebrate when others attain success. It should consume us in the most positive of ways. Give credit where credit is due because at heart, we are a community.
