What Christmas is really about.
Hey guys, Christmas is nearing and I am so excited. That is the picture of my living room with the Christmas tree that has been decorated by my hubby and I a week ago. Many people globally have heard about Christmas and some may even celebrate the occasion although they may not be a Christians. Have you ever wondered why do Christians celebrate Christmas?
Christians celebrates Christmas because it is a remembrance of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ whom we believe as our Messiah or the 'anointed one'. Christians believe that Jesus Christ our Messiah came to connect humanity back to God, the Father. The Christmas celebration is a celebration of LOVE, JOY, PEACE and HOPE. This is the occasion where family and friends come together to share love and joy with one another bringing peace and hope to one another. Some Christians goes to church on the Eve of Christmas Day and some also go to church on Christmas Day itself.
Christians believes that Jesus is a child of God that is borne of a virgin mother, the very well known Mother Mary whom the Catholic Christians honors and look very highly upon. Mary the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, was pledged to marry a man named Joseph as written in the Bible. But before they were married Mary was pregnant with a child through the spirit of God, so that is why Jesus is the Son of God borne of a virgin birth. In the book of Matthew chapter 1 verses 22 to 23 says "All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”)."
Some of my friends asked me why the Christmas Tree and where does the belief of Santa Klaus come from since it is really not related to the true meaning of Christmas. Well, the Christmas trees practice actually was adopted from the pagan beliefs where the pagans in Europe used to decorate their house with ferns. They believed that it will bring in new life and fertility during the dark and cold winter nights. Somehow after many years this tradition has been brought down to the Christians' culture. And Santa Klaus originated from a Saint called Nicholas who was a Greek Bishop that used to give out presents to children who are good and well behaved.
There you go, now you know a little bit more about the true meaning of Christmas. I pray that this Christmas will be a joyous one for you and your family. May you be filled with so much love, joy, peace and hope this Christmas.
