How We Kill Ourselves With Imbalance & What To Do

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

There is an Old Buddhist age old saying : Live The Middle Way

Living the Middle way is what I found to be way more than necessary during my healing journey from leukemia.

In fact, living the Balance of Life is absolutely crucial during this day and time when we are in a fast paced world of achieving success in our careers.

It is the fundamental element in our success in love, business relationships and connections; the element that form the basis of all Life Achievements most of us are seeking for.

I am passionate about living the balance of life, finding the middle path between age old spiritual teachings, and modern practicality living.

Not only that, it is the practice of giving and receiving. Allowing yourself to be strong, yet be vulnerable enough to ask and receive help. The balance of masculinity and femininity. The balance of being assertive; speaking up when you need to, defending what is right and appropriate, and then being passive; being kind, instead of being right when need to be.

The BALANCE

The Benefits of Balance and WHY It Is Important For You

Balance is the Law of Life.

If there is not a term coined for that, then I, Jassica, thereby coin Balance to be the Law of Life.

When our health goes out of whack, it is usually the case that there is over compensation of energy in the body itself, and a lack thereof in another part of the body.

We talk about having a balanced diet all the time, but have you ever thought of why?

Because too much of one thing can be bad for you.

Applying it to the topic of Balance, this is no different to how excessive consumption or piling of energy on one aspect of life, like when you eat too much food, could throw your tummy off balance, and your weight off whack.

How Cancer Happens

In fact, the thing called "cancer" happens when one of the hundred millions of cells in our bodies decided to go on hyper, and become overactive by growing and multiplying too much which forms tumours.

On the other hand, in a perfectly healthy body, cells grows and reproduce in an orderly, balanced, controlled manner. In some other conditions like leukemia, tumours don't grow but the cancer cells build up in the blood or the bone marrow.
In both cases, the excessive cancer cells are not supposed to be there, but they exist because some of the cells somehow happily decided to go off balance.

Ever worked too much, not have enough sleep, and feeling stressed?

Then have you had periods where you felt a feeling of stagnancy and boredom?

See, none of these are bad on its own. Except when it gets too much.

The Ebb and Flow

Life needs to have a time for healthy exertion of energy where our brain cells are stimulated and we are all geared up and psyched to go. At a same time, there needs to be an ebb where we have a time for rest, recentering, contemplation, and rejuvenation.

Efficient Energy Expenditure
This balance, is important for a sense of stability and groundedness. It keeps you focused, centered, and gives you the ability to move forward for the long run.

Better yet, you maximise spending your energy and time in the most efficient way, rather than having a high of burning the midnight oil on a Ferrari speed of 250km/hr and then a crash and burn the next by spending the next 2 weeks in bed.

WHAT TO DO

1. Have An Awareness of What Your Body Needs

  • Develop the ability to listen to your body and what it is saying.

The Practise: 5 Seconds Breathing Exercise

Take 2-3 minutes a day minimum and do the 5 seconds breathing exercise.

Inhale deeply from within your stomach, count up to 5, hold it for 5, and exhale, counting up to 5.

Repeat this for 3-4 times.

Then gently focus your awareness where your heart is, place 2 fingers around the area where your heart is, and breathe in through your heart- imagining like as though oxygen is going through your heart. Remember to exhale.

This exercise is adapted from the Heart Math Institute - an exercise scientifically proven to lower stress, boost the immune system, increase productivity and efficiency at work, and can make you potentially one very happy human being.

Well, if not very happy, then at least more at peace, and in harmony with the flow of life.

Note: As you practise this more often, it will help you become more in check with your body which is what is needed for balance.

2. Make Time For You - Let Go Of The Honor Of Sacrifice

Are You Secretly Proud Of Having the Badge Of Honor For Self - Sacrifice?

Maybe it's time we stop equating "sacrificing for our own good" to be a good thing and being proud of having that badge of honor.

WHY?

The Car Analogy : Would You Drive Your Car On An Empty Tank?

Well, try and see. We all know that is impossible. So think of yourself as a car. You can only run smoothly when you have adequate fuel, and on top of that, hopefully quality fuel, and with some proper maintanence.

If You Truly Want to Be Of Service, If You Truly Want to Give Back, Then You MUST Put Yourself First.

Whether it is taking time out, nourishing yourself, making time with the boys or girls, giving yourself a treat; whether that be in girly things or boyish things, do it.

Do it, if you are interested in going for the long haul.

Do it, if you truly want to be of service.

Do it, if you genuinely love your beloved ones and want to prevent resenting them, yourself and the world.

Let's quit the notion of self sacrifice all together. You are doing others no good. Even more so you.

3. Look at your Life - Where Can You Have More Balance?

Are you overly giving and not receiving?

Are you overly taking and not giving back in return?

Are you too masculine - too goal oriented, aggressive, working too hard?

Are you too feminine - too passive, not speaking out?

Are you eating well?

When we align our physical actions with our intentions, magic happens. And then some time the road, we look back and wonder what has happened.

The beauty is: the Balance of Life occurs in body, mind, and soul. Physically, mentally/emotionally, spiritually.

All 3 needs to be in place, one cannot do without the other.

That is another reason why we must be aware of the Balance of Life, and how we can effectively incorporate that wisdom into our daily lives, if we truly want a Life of Success, Harmony, Peace and Love.

I like those questions you posted under point #3, but maybe I'm also a sucker for introspective questions :)

Good article!

Yes.. Those look like pretty "harmless", simple questions, but if taken the time to have a good think, might give some pretty interesting realizations. I am glad you like them and thank you!

Questions are good, as long as it doesn't cause analysis paralysis. When in doubt, take a few steps forward, because if you could achieve clarity, you'd have gotten it long ago. In a dark cave, your vision will only get better as you approach the light, and eh?

But then again, some people do brood with Bruce Wayne, so it's not universal truth.

true that hey, . Wow. Brood with Bruce Wayne huh. I like that you have these "both sides of the spectrum" thing going on. Balanced hahah

Just like how you started this post - taking the middle path.

Buddha has His way of making things sound simple, and yet, the practice is not. You probably need to know both extremes to chart the middle ground. An excuse to swing both ways?

A brilliant reminder to find balance in everything we do.

OUCH! You got me there babe..

having a high of burning the midnight oil on a Ferrari speed of 250km/hr and then a crash and burn the next by spending the next 2 weeks in bed.

On the breathing exercise (i neglected for years).. can't recall where i learnt this.. inhale count to 5 , hold 5, exhale 10 and on exhale, with vocal cords hum where you can hear the humming in one's ears and the vibration spreads throughout one's body like a cat purring... Supposed to rejuvenate every cell in one's body? Frankly i can't remember its benefits. :(

Continue to be well and happy ya. Amen.

There is a story about Buddha...he almost died practising ahimsa which is extreme self torture to achieve enlightenment. The he heard an old musician telling his apprentice that a string instrument doesnt play well if too tight and if too loose there is no sound. It has to be just right. It dawned upon him that he almost died without even achieving nirwana because he practised extremism.

Wow... this is an extremely well written article which can be summarised with the word "Ying & Yang". I myself is a minimalist so much of what you mentioned applies to my philosophy and principal. It looks like cancer has given you a new meaning of life and you are living it to the fullest.
Thanks for sharing with us~!

Thanks so much ! and yes you are so so right about Yin and Yang - in fact, I'd probably have another article written for that in the perspective of love relationships! Hope you are well!

You rock girl! Maybe one of these days we can do something about this experience of yours - we discuss when we meet soon babe.

Yes, sounds good, lets do dear!
