DotA As a Tool for Learning English

in #teammalaysia5 years ago

Learning new languages can be tough for a lot of people especially students. Motivation and potential are the key aspects of driving students to reach their objective, which is in this context, becoming fluent in English. Without feeling any urge to do or learn something, it will be very hard for the students to pay full attention during English class resulting in them being submissive and disregard both the teacher and the lesson. Apart from that, the problem arises from the students’ lack of a goal to achieve something. Due to this, no study plan got organized which caused a lack of knowledge in vocabulary.

Due to this, researchers are starting to use a game, specifically DotA2, to help students to build fluency in English. The method used to identify this problem is by conducting research amongst high school students.
This a big deal because games are always deemed to be an eyesore that gets in the way of children’s studies to most Asian parents. To convince them that games, especially interactive ones, can help in increasing efficiency in the English language can be very hard to accept.

It definitely can be applied in the classroom of the future to cultivate the 21st - century learning likewise, enhancing students’ and teachers’ skills of technology and information. Undoubtedly, it will create a fun and interactive class with students looking forward to studying and play every school time.

Well, I used to have a PS1 when I stumbed an English language on a game. I questioned my dad about it and he explained the meaning of it. Then he explained that the reason we are allowed to play some games occasionally is to learn something new like that event (I believe it's called tangential learning). Of course game are possible with a lot of talents, and no doubt can push its frontiers as an interactive art form. :)

Hello @jacynta . You have gained my attention the moment you mention about Dota 2 xD. I'm a future English teacher but in primary education. I play Dota 2 as my hobby. Love to hear from someone who is really passionate about Dota 2, because this game is dying already. Anyway, best of luck in your teaching! :D If you don't mind, feel free to drop your Dota 2 ID and we can play together.
