A week in the life of a Canadian Automotive Technician
Hello all! I've never tried blogging before but I'm going to give it a try.
I'm a 21 yr old Canadian Automotive Technician working in a shop that specializes in older cars but works on everything.
In this blog I'll go through the highlights of the week, tips/tricks for certain things, and cool things I come across during the week. I will do my best to respond to all comments. Let me know what you all want to know.
For the week of Nov20th-26th:
I don't only work on one thing a day, it's a very small shop so I get pulled off to do small jobs multiple times a day
Monday:
This week was focused on a 02 Subaru WRX. I had to pull the engine and transmission out. Monday I was able to get the transmission out. It was than sent out to be rebuilt, as it has no 3rd gear
Tuesday:
Today I had enough time on the Subaru to get the engine out, this engine was surprisingly easy to pull compared to other engines I have pulled
Wednesday:
Got the engine on a stand today. I am replacing the head gaskets on it. I did not get much time on it today, but I got most of the engine wiring off
Thursday:
Heads are off! Got the rest of the engine all torn apart to where I need to to be, time to send the heads off to be machined, I don't have a good pic with the heads off, so I will take a few good ones when they come back
Friday:
Started my big wiring project on a 64 Mercury Maurader, the main positive cable from the alternator is burnt all the way to the back of the dash. So I have the fun job of going through all the wiring and repairing anything necessary. Needless to say this will be a 20-30 hour job
Well that's all the highlights for this week! I hope you enjoyed. Leave any questions you have and I will answer to the best of my ability!
