TEAM AUSTRALIA: Introduction Post.
Introduction : Hobbies : fun facts: I hugged ORLANDO BLOOM ..lol
Hi everyone, I'm sarah.
I'm an Expat Kiwi based in Brisbane. Please don't hold the Kiwi against me.... lol I actually speak like an Aussie now. Except when i say " The six sailors were on the deck of the ship, drinking Pepsi out of a chili bin..."
My daughter is an Aussie though, so hopefully that counts me in enough. Thanks @choogirl for posting somewhere that i managed to find. I'm new to the big world of Steem. I love blogging and i'm liking the platform but getting a bit lost getting around at the moment. Not sure who to follow :-) @centerlink can please register me for the Steemit Dole :-) laughs
TEAM AUSTRALIA
I would love to follow you all. Shoot me a message on this post saying hi and i'll pop over to your blog. I just don't even know where to start with all the blogs everywhere and such great creative and funny stuff about.
I love anything that is a bit creative and have dabbled in just about all hobbies that you can imagine... ok...
your task
is to come up with some LEGITIMATE creative hobbies that i haven't tried yet and i will blog about trying them.. Nothing terribly obscure people...
INTERESTS:
you can read about my hobbies in a bit more detail over on my hobby page https://steemit.com/life/@steemedge/sewing-gardening-crypto-mumlife-cooking-art-sustainability-nursing-history-piano-australia
Basically:
Sewing
Art stuff
Writing stuff
Ballet
Cooking and gardening stuff
computer stuff
mostly creative stuff... In fact there really is an awful lot of stuff... Fabric has taken over bookshelves in this house. (Don't fret book lovers i bought the books new shelves in the front room...)
Blah blah blah blah blah
FUNFACT:
So I know i started by telling you all a story about a murder. Its true. I'm into #familyhistory and i was researching the family tree. Nana would NEVER tell us about the Patrick side of the family. Went tight lipped and refused to allow mum to call me Elizabeth. Didn't find out till 10 years AFTER she passed away the reason.
Basically my great grandparents were "patricks" Florence Elizabeth was my GGm's name. just before she was born, her uncle, Harry Patrick, got into a little bit of strife... He had a "fit" which at the time they called Epilepsy, i'm suspicious it wasn't something else but anyway... he came home from work and found his "girl friend" that the papers called a "girl of loose morals" in his room.
Anyway the story ends with him slitting her throat.
Naturally he was arrested and sentenced to death in dec 1885. BUT he got off!!!!! it was a precident case because the reduced his sentence on medical grounds. That RARELY happened in those times at all. He had an awesome legal team and petitions from the public attesting to his usual good behaviour.
By let off he was sentenced to 10 years hard labour. So not pleasant. But he had a family afterwards.
ACTUAL FUN FACT
I GOT A HUG FROM ORLANDO BLOOM!!!!!
At the Kiwi grande premiere of LOTR, I was chatting away to Aragorns height double. Viggo wasn't tall enough for the bridge scene where he has to kiss Liv Tyler. So they got a height double to do the kissing scene. Apparently he said, giggling away, he kept mucking up the scene so the had to reshoot it... again..... and again.... and again.....
lol.
Then he went and got Orlando Bloom for me... I also met Elijah Wood and the other hobbits :-) it was amazing!!

Pool shed - stomp around outside, rattle the walls with a stick? The snake likely to be more feared of you than you of it? I used to have snakes in the woodshed in Norseman and would cry out, 'Snakey, snakey, wide awakey," as I made as much noise as possible to allow it to either scoot or hide itself more securely.
Hobbies? She says (in old grumpy voice) at my age, my dear I have tried most BUT have you given rug-making a go? There are two separate methods - one is using a hook and cut lengths of wool. The other is a poking needle arrangement and a continuous length of wool.
Intro
Isabel (a version of Elizabeth - eldest two daughters named/lumbered with for centuries. Met hosts of folk after two third cousins - different branches - did all the donkey work. Some of it a nixed blessing.)
78 and heading off to 81 when I will be too old to be allowed to continue being a blood donor. As I would no longer need to fill in the forms before each donation, I will feel free to answer yes to some of the questions about drugs, tattoos and sex which, right now, get an honest tick in the No box.
Am as recent to steemit as yourself and trust we will both negotiate our way through this system. Cheers
well now you learn a thing every day, i didn't know you were not allowed to donate blood after a certain.... ahem.... age.... i'm a nurse too... but my patients normally are the recipients. Working in the "meaty" end of the hospital system, no pun there, our patients go through a little bit of this. We thank you for your donations. It has been a few years since i have, (owing to babies and pregnancy and the usual suspects).
Actually... rug making i HAVE done... but not the methods you suggest. I made my daughter some blanket rugs for the play room floor. So they were fabric rather than yarn based rugs. I get in trouble for knitting based hobbies. My husband looks at me in horror like i am turning into his great grandmother before his eyes. Its funny, i'm allowed to sew, embroider even... but not... oh the horror of it... knit!!! never....Funny creatures they are.
I also tinker with writing, i see from your web page that you also find solace in words. I would love to write more, but i find my attention span and "sticking things out to the end" power is just not good enough. I have hundreds of started books. where i get a great idea write a few chapters and they are good. Actually they are good. but i just don't have the inclination to finish.
Yes i know i normally stomp... it doesn't help that the snake is renting the same space as a wasps nest. One or the other might be manageable but together... intolerable. Though i will say i am more frightened by the wasps who are more likely to bite than the snake.
thanks for stopping by @isabeldorastorey i hope you enjoy your steemit journey as much as i. You have yourself a great day.
Sarah
I find my motivation to finish writing a lengthy thing vanishes when (a) I know how it is going to end and (b) when I have told someone else the story. Mentioned this to another writer who pointed out that, as a storyteller the story is told in the telling. Do you find common threads within the stories you have started but not carried forward? Wasps are creatures I would not be inclined to allow to build anywhere near me! I have a vague memory of removing one - must have worked out as I would have remembered having to worry about living with them. I have some unfinished knitting on the go - blanket for a cot in South African orphanage supported by the staff at the Backpackers Lodge where I stayed when researching for my novel. I have got the feeling you and I could rattle on for ages! LOL
Yanno ... once a kiwi always a kiwi ... just sayin' ;)
hi from another kiwi and a fellow genealogist :D
You should really give that poor snake a name, let it feel more like a part of the family. lolol /jk
lol.... yes i shall consider myself split between :-)

i'm also a fan of Steempunk. I was writing a SP novel at one point. but also i have so many hobbies. I also have rather a collection of Victorian clothes :-)
Would love to do more SP though.
would you like to name the snake for me...?
Thanks for stopping by :-)
Oooh, I love the idea of a Victorian clothing wardrobe, how funky!
And yay for another steampunk fan - you'll have to join us in the steempunknet game :D
Naming the snake? Oh I couldn't take that pleasure away from your family, lol.
Victorian and its much later derivative (1950's) :-)
Yes ive had a look at that and will try and get over and see you all.. Squuuuee i love all the cool stuff i'm finding on Steem.
I shall ask the three year old to name it... so it will end up either being "nakey" or "florence".. lol
hahaha @ the potential snake names. I can just imagine that too.
Steemit is an amazing place and growing more all the time as people get together with common focuses. :)
Welcome, I live around the corner in Byron. When I read your bio I was like "okay she is a daughter, a husband??? A CAT?????" Then I got it. Lolz.
Obscure hobbies? How about felting, sandstone carving or puppet knitting?
oh yes... no, i'm not a cat....:-)
I admit to not really having tried carving... i would love to try carving.... lots of the woodwork creative ones are on my bucket list yet to be done. or Marquetry that would be cool.
According to my husband i am not allowed to knit... :-)
Nice to meet you, have just popped over briefly to your blog. It looks very "my cup of tea" but alas i have to collect the small child from her daily institution... (Otherwise know as preschool ...:-) where today she has apparently been making masks.
So i shall have to book mark for a better read this evening. I see lots of pretty looking posts over there :-)
Thanks for the comment.
Welcome Sarah. I love your spirit. I'm a bit jealous of the Orlando hug if I'm to be honest. That's quite a family history. Isn't it funny how families keep these secrets. I have a few I still don't know the details of that everyone refuses to talk about.
Hi, thanks for stopping by, yes, I was very impressed to meet Orlando, and all of the rest of them. It was such an exciting dat to be sure. Yes, families keep secrets and i wish sometimes they didn't. I love researching the tree it is just such a fascinating hobby!
Hi Sarah!
A hobby of mine I had was lock picking. I bought a set of lock picks and different pad locks and taught myself the skill. It was fun just playing by feel while watching tv and picking locks. Have you tried it?
