Social Housing reform
An inspiring and wonderful day at Trades Hall talking housing and contributing to motions.
How do we make change in a community and political environment?
It's rather quite simple,
Today a meeting was held to move a motion for the creation of more social and public housing and to tackle the housing crisis in Australia.
After reading the motion I agreed with it but wanted to include three policy points.
Local Governments need to start playing a key role in the development of housing stock. Traditionally Local Governments argue that it is a State issue however I disagree as people who are homeless ARE members of local government areas and as such local governments have responsibility on behalf of their residents.
Richard Wynn worked on some great policies around inclusion zoning for social housing in new developments which needs more focus.
With the handover of public housing to Aboriginal Housing Victoria the current motion of building more public housing didnt include Aboriginal Housing.
These 3 amendments will go towards further developing the housing motion.
Well done.

Very valid points.
As some of the councils went into Administration for some bad decision making and even poor behaviour - they should do more good in the light of increasing rate income.
I didn't need the 2 million dollar park upgrade.
I'm a fan of Corporate & Local Council both investing in their local communities.
