Hello Steemians,

I'm going to start start off by stating a couple of facts about myself and i want you to keep these in mind whilst you read the article & my response.

  • When it comes to Men Vs Women, I'm an equalist (what feminism should be).
  • I believe that the successful candidate (job interview) should be the best person for the job. Doesn't matter what colour their skin is, doesn't matter if they have lady parts or male parts. No Quotas to fill, just the best person.
  • Women have a place in professional sport in this scenario, Women's Australian Rules football.
  • I'm a football fan ( Soccer)
  • Most importantly, I have a daughter.

Tiffany Cherry hosted a Television show last year (the inaugural year), and was told she was no longer required for the show in the 2018 version. She was replaced by a Male, Clint Stanaway. Before I go on and get into the nitty gritty, please have a read on Tiffany's article for the Herald Sun AFLW show being hosted by a man? Welcome to women’s footy on Nine.

Take your time, I'll wait here while you read.

Did you actually read it? ok good.

Let's start off, Tiffany was replaced, the successful candidate, the best person for the job ... who happens to be a male (deemed by the people that pay the bills). Fact. We don't know why Tiffany was replaced, my amateur googling skills couldn't uncover anything concrete.

"But I absolutely cannot accept that a female couldn’t be found to replace me."

"Though the person occupying the host’s chair last year was yours truly, I’m most definitely not crying: “Poor me, I’ve lost my job. Television is a tough industry. It’s subjective, and decisions are made all the time, often by one or two people, as to whether you’re the right fit. A decision was made about me, and I cop it on the chin." Tiffany Cherry

Why does the sex of the host matter? Why in 2018 is Tiffany wasting hours of her valuable time inher highly influential position as a journalist for the herald sun to write an article that makes per look like a bitter radical feminist.

The woman's professional football league is backed by the AFL (the mens version), money is being pumped into the womens game like there is no tomorrow. That money is coming from the revenue from the men's game. Last year the competition opened the gates and had free admission (awesome initiative, why cant more sports do this). The AFLW is getting prime time television coverage with some bloody decent Viewership.

She goes on...

"What about those females, that next generation, who tune in to watch a show about their game only to find a male welcoming them?" What message is being sent to them? There was a female sitting in this chair last year, but we don’t think she’s good enough and can’t find a female better to replace her, so here’s your male host to welcome you to your women’s game. Here’s your inspiration, girls.” Tiffany Cherry

So what Tiffany, the successful applicant that happens to be a male, will welcome both Men and Women and host a television show. It will have no bearing on whether or not young women tune in to watch. If the content and the quality is good enough, they'll tune in anyway. I hope that I raise my daughter wise enough to analyse what she is watching and think objectively about it, and if she doesn't like the content, then she searches for something else. The inspiration you refer to should be the stories of the women playing the game, not what sex the host of a Football analysis show is.

...or maybe they can take inspiration out of the fact that, this man, hosting a women's show is actually an advocate for women. Clint helped form a charity called 'Mands' Mob' which has contributed a significant amount of money to Ovarian cancer research. He was also the National ambassador for the ovarian cancer research foundation. On top of his sports journalist experience, he sounds like a fantastic candidate for the job.

"We’re done waiting, and we’re done playing second fiddle to a man. We’re done being underpaid. We’re done losing out on a job to a man because we’re women. We’re done being overlooked. Period." Tiffany Cherry.

The women on the field don't appear to be waiting for anyone, and with the coverage the women's version of the game is getting, if it continues this growth trajectory, they wont be playing second fiddle for long.

Tiffany, Leave your Radical Feminist views at home. Time for the Women's game to shine and for you to put your money where your mouth is and "Cop it on the chin".

I'm going to donate 30% of the SBD generated from this post to the Ovarian Cancer Research foundation in the name of Mands Mob OR you can dontate yourself here! The more you upvote or resteem the more SBD will go to a great cause.

Thanks, XAG.

It's an interesting piece that's for sure...

I will be honest mate, she didn't strike me as the right candidate for the show anyway when I first tuned in last year.

There are a ton of better outgoing presenters even on Fox Sports News that I would give that gig to in a prime time spot over her.

Man or woman doesn't matter but I think that the anchor on Fox Sports that will be heading to bigger and better things will be Abbey Gelmi.

Her reporting for the NBL and additional work is paying off for her career.

It's simple, you work hard you get the results and don't burn any bridges on the way out.

Yep there are a tonne of talented women in sports presenting. Thanks for getting involved.

No problem :)
