Where's The Loo? A Helpful Guide (With Link) To Understanding And Communicating With @teamaustralia

in #teamaustralia8 years ago (edited)

In the absence (to my knowledge) of a @teamaustralia wiki, I have provided a (somewhat) adequate do-it-yourself translation service, for Steemit tourists. Most of these words and terms are in common usage throughout Australia, but may differ from state to state. That is a learn as you go, trial and error, process, there is no other way.

We, as a people, are usually more than happy to amiably correct you if you get it wrong... at first. Example "Nah mate. It's not arvo it's avo. Two different things mate."
After a while though, 'if ya muck it up' (if you make a mistake) we may laugh at you, and we will definitely 'think you're a dickhead and say so' (jovially voice our dark suspicions about the level of your ignorance concerning our local culture... and your intellect).
One term missing from the full list deserves an honourable mention, because, one of the very first things you need to know when learning another language, while travelling, is the term "Can you direct me towards a toilet?" Which in Australia is "Where's the loo?" You probably won't need it on Steemit, but it's important nonetheless.
So in the effort to embrace the global, multicultural platform that is Steemit, I feel obliged to help in anyway I can. Below are a few to get you started, but you can find a much more comprehensive list in the link provided. 'I reckon you should av a squiz' ( I recommend you take a look).

For those wishing to explore the Aussie language further, here is an intimate look at a weekly cultural festival common in all parts of Australia. The Chook Raffle.
