It is always a joy for me whenever I have the opportunity to participate in the Steemit contest weekly and today I will be participating in the crypto academy community contest. Stay tune below.

1. Determine the topic of the mini research for your students and why the research needs to be done by the students?

For this particular research, I will be making use of the topic: “What Makes a Good Friend?”

Talking about the reason why I actually pick this topic, it is simple and will be engaging for the students in the sense that it will help them to come to the full understanding about the social relationships that might come their way daily. Not only that, I strongly believe that this particular topic will help the students to be able to understand fully the qualities that helps to establish the strong friendship among their peers in the society which is very important.

Not only that, this particular research topic will help to encourage the students to be able to ask questions I mean meaningful questions as regards the topic and helping them to get responses also. It also helps them to come to the full understanding about character education.

Formulate a problem or two, then develop some relevant interview questions to answer the problem? 1 point

Based on the particular topic I picked above, these are some of the problems I was able to formulate and they are two.

The Research Problems.

  • Problem 1: List Out The Vital Qualities Student Value In A Good Friend.

  • Problem 2: What Are The Ways Students Can Strengthen And Sustain The Friendship They Have.

Relevant Interview Questions For Problem 1.

In order to be able to address Problem 1, I was able to come up with some interview questions which are below;

  • What are the attributes that can make an individual a very good friend?
  • Give me one example of a particular period that a friend supports you?
  • What are the attributes you look out for that determine whether someone can be a close friend to you?

Relevant Interview Questions For Problem 2.

  • What are the ways to settle conflicts with the friends you have?
  • List out some of the activities you really enjoyed having with your friends.
  • What are the ways to constantly stay in touch with your friends most especially when you are no longer seeing them.

Assign your students to conduct research using the prepared interview questions and observe every activity the students do, sharing photos and videos during the activity? 3 points. Photo 1 point and Video 3± minutes 2 points

I was able to carry out some of the interview with some of the students I have around and engaged them in the discussion as you can see in the picture below;

For this, I first of all engaged each one of them individually as you can see below in the video below; 👇

Then I ask the students to carry out interactive sessions among themselves. I sat out to notice something's about it also.

Explain and elaborate on any interesting findings that occurred during the research and what are the conclusions of the research results? 3 points

After carrying out the research with some of my students as you can see in the picture above, these are some of the findings I was actually able to come up with.

  • Shared Values in Friendships: I discovered that a lot of the students actually prefer to have a friend that is trustworthy, kind and also honest. I also discovered that some of the students want their friends to share similar interests with them as they believe it will strengthen the bond.
  • Conflict Resolution: Then also I noticed that majority of my students said they preferred to settle issues and conflict by dialogue. But one of the things that I noticed shocking was the fact that a lot of them did not want to open up on their conflicts experience.
  • Activities That Strengthen Bonds: I was also able to find out some activities that they believe can strengthen their friendship bond. Examples like sports and games. In fact a lot of them prefer games much more than sports.
  • The Role of Technology: I also discovered that among all the issues those students opened up to me about conflict, I discovered that technology has really played a very major role in the friendship we have nowadays in our society.

Conclusions of the Research Results.

After the research, there are some conclusions I was able to draw out based on the research results which are below;

  • Key Traits in Friendship: I was able to actually learn some key and vital trait that sustain friendship. Examples like trust, kindness and honesty just like I said earlier.
  • Conflict Management: My eyes were also opened to conflict management as I was able to learn some strategies to manage conflicts.
  • Importance of Shared Experiences: I also was able to learn a lot from people's personal shared experience about some of their past experience with people.
  • Impact of Technology: This is the last one I noticed. I was able to detect the strong impact that technology has really created in the aspect of strengthening friendship.

According to your observations, what are the weaknesses of the students during this research, and what are your steps in developing their analytical skills in the future? 2 points

Weaknesses Observed During the Research.

From my study with those students, I actually discovered that there are some weaknesses that I really discovered which I will like to talk about below;

  • Lack of Confidence in Asking Questions: I notice that some of the weaknesses that my students have is some of them at the initial state lack the confidence to ask questions most of the time.
  • Limited Analytical Skills: Also I notice that a lot of them have limited analytical skills and in what way do I believe so, I was able to see it in the aspect of the fact that they are not able to analyse some of the responses that they received at the initial level.
  • Over-reliance on Technology: Then lastly I discovered that a lot of them have so much depend on technology which most of the time is even affecting their attention during the interview.

Steps to Develop Students' Analytical Skills in the Future

I was able to come up with some vital steps that I strongly believe will help some of my students in the future which are these below;

  • Build Interviewing Confidence: I will want to work on building their self confidence and that is engaging them in role playing exercises so that it can enhance their confidence in the face of interviews.
  • Teach Analytical Techniques: I will also like to come up with some analytical techniques that I can use to carry out. I will carry some activities out and if possible make use of mind maps also.
  • Encourage Critical Thinking: Then the last one is to try to engage them in critical thinking most especially in the aspect of open questions and understanding the reason why they need to know the value of gold friendship.
  • Improve Documentation Skills: I will also like to work on their documentation skills. Their documentation skills is really poor. Very poor I must truly confess.
