Street food at Night Market in Langkawi, Malaysia
Night markets in Langkawi are held every day of the week, taking place at different place in the island every day. Local vendors set up stalls along a stretch of road and sell all kinds of local food from 5pm until late evening.
The best time to go there is right around 5pm because there will be plenty of fresh food. Especially if you have sensitive gut, make sure the food you eat there is fresh!
One of my favorites was Nasi kandar, a popular northern Malaysian dish, which originates from Penang island.
Nasi kandar was popularized by Indian Muslim traders from India. It is a meal of steamed rice which can be plain or mildly flavored, and served with a variety of curries and side dishes.
Satay is also very famous food and it's freshly prepared there. It is an Indonesian dish that is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Satay is made of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce, mostly peanut sauce.
You can find not only savoury, but also sweet dishes and desserts.
There is always the biggest and the juiciest jackfruit over there and many durians - must taste fruits at this Night Market. There are low, medium and high quality durians with price of 10, 12 and 14 Malaysian ringgits respectively. Many people from Singapore come in Malaysia only to eat the best (and cheap) durians :)
Not only food is served at Night Markets, you also can buy clothes and toys. Everything is very cheap! Most of the meals are 2-5 Malaysian ringgits (less than 1 USD).
There are few scenes from our visit to Night Market in the second half of the video below:
