Da Maria (Traditional Italian cuisine in Genoa)
There is a magical place, a traditional Italian trattoria hidden in the "Caruggi of Genoa (Italy)", right in the old town, more precisely at number 15 of Vico Testadoro, a name with fantasy tones that can easily evoke something wonderful. (Testadoro means golden head).
In fact it’s just like that, a timeless wonder founded by "A scià Maria" (in the Genoese dialect Lady Maria), a dear woman from the working class with a noble heart that unfortunately passed away eleven years ago, back in 2008, at the age of 85.
Her family restaurant, however, is already history and is still there, ready to whisper in our ears all the "life" that those walls have seen passing in more than seventy years of honored activity, spent in an extremely informal, cultural, intellectual and certainly artistic setting, as soon as its threshold is crossed.
Among those tables covered with typical white and red checked tablecloths and "unpaired" crockery, always different from one another, where you often sit down and share your lunch time with perfect strangers, you can breathe the lost emotions of the good old days tasting the most famous and delicious dishes of Genoese and Ligurian cuisine, prepared and served by the boys and girls who continue the great magic still today.
It will be impossible not to be impressed by the veracity of this place; it will be impossible not looking forward to come back again; it will be impossible not to fall in love reading the hand-written menus, which are canceled with a line when one of the many available courses ends.
Even foreigner media have noticed in the past the genuineness that you eat and breathe at “Da Maria”, paying a very cheap fixed price, almost symbolic, 10 euros for two courses and one drink, as Maria always wanted: first the famous French newspaper Le Monde, then even the New York Times, have praised this timeless corner of Genoese culinary traditions.
A two floors premises where countless famous people have passed that is not just food, but a dive into the past, art, history and imagination; not only the palate will be covered with delight, but even the driest hearts will return green tasting trenette al pesto, borage ravioli, Genoese “Cima” and minestrone, stuffed anchovies, stoccafisso (stockfish), stewed tripe, buridda and much more.
Better not to forget the typical dessert of the house, all to be discovered...

Great post and thanks for sharing. If I had to pick, I'd pair this with a Vienna lager. The two would be delicious together
