SIGNATURE....indeed
Tawau, a town on the east coast of Sabah North Borneo, may not have a Starbucks or a Coffee Beans but it has the best coffee you would not find in these famous outlets- the signature Kopi Arang or Charcoal Coffee at Signature.
I tried the Charcoal Coffee last year introduced by a young local barista, Adie Harry, during our Pitchborneo event and this year I tasted it at his own cafe - simply named Signature.
The place is simply cozy with a character of its own in a local way. The dark grey interior with a blend of white creamy colour onto the side wall and just a bit of pinkish red and blue further behind give away that coffee feeling that ends with brighter happy taste.
The interior may look basic but kept spotless all the time and Signature has a toilet cleaner than some hotels.
The Food
Coffees of cause but my favourite is Kopi Arang. A full body taste of real coffee yet smooth refreshing in ice or have it hot, with faint taste of charcoal-ness.
Besides different types of beverages Signature also serves pastries, cakes and sandwiches. However, the most surprising dish was the lamb chop. I had assumed a cafe focused on coffee beverages would just serve an ordinary dish of lamb chops but I was wrong. It was the best lamb chops I’ve ever had.
The lamb chops dish was simply a killer. It was tender, juicy and fats that melt like butter in your mouth. The secret, Adie revealed, was the way it was marinated and cooked. Even the side dish was delicious- I loved the cheese covered mashed potato.

Signature is certainly a must place to be whenever in Tawau Sabah North Borneo for the best Kopi Arang and lamb chops are here.
