Hong Kong Tasteem(5) - Upgrade Hong Kong Egg Waffle
Egg Waffle, I believe many of you know it. Some of you have tried it. @travelgril, miss it? Egg Waffle is one of the most famous and popular street food of Hong Kong and it is now famous worldwide. You can even find egg waffle in countries like Saudi Arabic, Ukraine and Latvia! And do you know? The birth of egg Waffle is due to poorness.
In the 1950s, Hong Kong is still a poor place. There were many small stores. The store owners didn’t want to waste the broken eggs and so ate them themselves. One day, a guy just tried to mix the egg with flour and butter and then heat in oven. Oh! it’s delicious!
相信很多朋友都認識,也吃過雞蛋仔,@travelgirl你是不是很懷念?雞蛋仔作為香港最著名的街頭小食,其威名早已名揚海外,我更聽說現在在沙特阿拉伯、烏克蘭、拉脫維亞等地都有雞蛋仔店!但你知道嗎?雞蛋仔的起源原來是貧窮。
早在1950年代,香港仍是很窮,那時候賣雞蛋的雜貨店每天總有一些破掉的雞蛋,他們不想浪費,就有人突發其想,把破雞蛋混和牛油面粉等打成漿再焗來吃,直到有人用了一個雞蛋狀的模具,就成為了現在的雞蛋仔。
Today, there are many egg waffle shops in Hong Kong and even all over the world but many people think that the egg waffle in Hong Kong is the best! Yes I agree. I tried egg waffle in other countries and I do agree egg waffle in Hong Kong is the best. Just like the one below, which has been introduced by different YouTube and TV programme.

多人都說香港的雞蛋仔才是最好吃的。我認同,我也吃過其他地方吃過的雞蛋仔,也總覺得香港的雞蛋仔最好吃,正如以下這一家店,連我們的廚神謝霆鋒也在節目介紹過:
But it’s not the main cast today. I am going to introduce the upgraded egg waffle. After 70 years since egg waffle was invented, now we have egg waffle in different favour: cheese, chocolate, green tea and even durian. Not only favour, and also extra ice-cream! In 2014, someone in Hong Kong try to mix ice-cream and egg waffle together, and now it’s super famous!
This shop is called BB Egg Waffle, which is famous of ice-cream egg waffle.
不過我今天介紹的不是普通雞蛋仔,而是進化版的雞蛋仔。雞蛋仔經過多年發展,已有不同口味,如芝士、朱古力、綠茶,甚至有榴槤味!除了味道,更有其他,於2014年,香港某店首創將雞蛋仔加雪糕一起吃,到今天已是全國可見,可能在外國也在流傳。
這一間店叫BB雞蛋仔,在香港有數家分店,也是雪糕雞蛋仔很出名的一間店。
We can have two favour of ice-cream. I chose cookies and green tea.
一個雞蛋仔可配上兩種口味的雪糕,我就選了曲奇和綠茶。
Here it is! Cold ice-cream and hot egg waffle, the feeling of hot and cold in your mouth at the same time. You can’t stop eating it. And it is cheap! Only HK$22 (less than US$3). Of course, if you want to eat egg waffle in Hong Kong, BB Egg Waffle is not the only choice. There are many egg waffle shops in Hong Kong but if you met BB Egg Waffle in Hong Kong, you definitely need to try!
來了!冰凍的雪糕,加上還熱的雞蛋仔,冰火之爽快在口中徘徊,而重點是,這雪糕雞蛋仔只是港幣$22,實在是很便宜!當然,大家如果想吃雞蛋仔,也不一定要來這間店,香港基本上處處都有雞蛋仔店,不過如你遇到這間BB雞蛋仔可不要錯過了,我誠意推介!

LOL why are you doing this to me? I miss them soooo much. We have them here but only a very limited places but cannot compare with HK. I think I just fresh 雞蛋仔 without any ice cream, topping. Just pure 雞蛋仔.
BTW thanks for the history of the food. I love the element of this review :)
