Grasshopper

The grasshoppers were found in a cluster in a small rock formation between four and five feet in diameter on a large sandy hillside facing the road to the village of Pahang.

It is thought that the grasshoppers were introduced by nomadic people who live in the area with an abundance of trees.

It is estimated that in one year the grasshoppers can lay between 80,000 and 200,000 eggs.

Huge field study

The field study revealed that these grasshoppers are much more numerous than expected given their small size.

The experts believe that most of them were brought out by a number of different people, but they believe that these grasshoppers are likely to have passed through multiple wild areas within Cambodia's mountainous range over many years, and may have lived for thousands or millions of years in that vast territory. Their range can stretch for 800,000 kilometres, which means they will easily have passed through several countries.
