Syrian Jet Down - Late analysis

With so much going on between the US and Syria lately I thought it would be good to learn up on exactly what is going on. While looking into the chemical weapons and how the US in involved in Syria something new happened and I didn’t see it right away. I’m sure you have heard that the US recently downed a Syrian jet near the village of al Resafa.

Statement from the Syrian army

“The "flagrant attack was an attempt to undermine the efforts of the army as the only effective force capable with its allies ... in fighting terrorism across its territory," the Syrian army said.
"This comes at a time when the Syrian army and its allies were making clear advances in fighting the Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group," it added.
The U.S. Central Command later issued a statement saying the Syrian plane was downed "in collective self-defense of Coalition-partnered forces," identified as fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Tabqah
It said that "pro-Syrian regime forces" had earlier attacked an SDF-held town south of Tabqa and wounded a number of fighters, driving them from the town.”

So, when pro-Syrian regime forces attack US backed forces, the Syrian government gets attacked despite the fact they are attacking ISIS? Rather than working with Assad to defeat ISIS, which is what the US claims to be in Syria to do, they will attack them for interfering with the US agenda in their own country. Not surprising, unfortunately, but I was hoping that Trump would at some point stick to his word and stop US intervention with Syria. But if his failure to stop messing around in Syria wasn’t enough, now the world gets to watch the US run protection for ISIS.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports

“A regime warplane was targeted and dropped in the skies of the al-Resafa area

The fate of the pilot of regime’s warplane is still unknown, where its warplane was dropped in the southern countryside of Al-Raqqah, the warplane was shot down over Al-Resafa area of which the regime forces have reached to its frontiers today, and sources suggested to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that warplanes of the International Coalition targeted it during its flight in close proximity to the airspace of the International Coalition’s warplanes, which caused its debris to fall over Resafa city amid an unknown fate of its pilot, the sources confirmed that the warplane did not target the Syria Democratic Forces in their controlled areas located at the contact line with regime forces’ controlled areas in the western countryside of Al-Tabaqa to the road of Al-Raqqah – Resafa.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is an anti-government media outlet that some call western propaganda, claiming ties to UK and other EU connections. Despite this, they are openly stating that it was not US backed SDF being attacked, just in case there was any doubt.

These “deconfliction zones” that the US has set up in Syria are not recognized by the Syrian government or the Russians. Basically, the US decided that the Syrian territory that it’s proxies have claimed and where they are training new fighters is now theirs, and Syria, Russia, and anyone else that the US declares are not welcome. This recently downed Syrian jet isn’t the first time that crossing into these zones has caused conflict. In May, a convoy of 20 pro-Syrian regime force vehicles headed to the town of An Tanf. Thirteen crossed the border of the deconfliction zone, and 5 more continued even further getting within 29 kilometers (18 miles) of a US base. The US sent two planes into the air with intentions of trying to scare the off the pro-regime forces. After taking some warning shots from the US and an apparent attempt by the Russians to warn the militia, the 5 vehicles, which were at least one tank and one bulldozer type vehicle, continued moving forward until they were destroyed by the US warplanes.

The downing of the Syrian jet is now the second attack on Syrian government forces this year, and during Trumps presidency. Ron Paul adds in the above interview that it is the first time the US has engaged in air-to-air combat in this manner since 1999.

I must say that I am disappointed. The US intervention is only escalating towards direct conflict with Syria and Russia, and that is not good for anyone. As I continue to dig into the Syria situation I will share what I find.
