Fig as sweet spoon/dessert.
This is a traditional recipe of my place: Fig as sweet spoon/dessert.
Pick up the figs from a wild fig tree.
Ingredients
- 60 small wild figs.
- 1kg sugar.
- Water.
- Vanilla.
- 1 lemon.
First of all wash the figs with plenty of water.
Boil them with a lot of water for 10 minutes.
Then put out from the fire, cut their stalks.
With a toothpick penetrate from one end to the other each fig.
Put them again on fire for boil 10 minutes, change the water and repeat the process 4 times, untill the bitter taste come off.
Then squeeze them very well with hands to come off the water.
Leave them all night on a towel untill dry very well.
In the morning put on fire 1kg sugar with 1.5 glass of water and boil for 10 minutes, then add the figs and the juice of a lemon.
Leave them to boil 20-30 minutes.
If needed remove the foam.
Turn off the fire and cover the pot with a towel until be cold.
When are cold boil again until the syrup "thicken".
When are ready add vanilla and turn off the fire.
Served with ice-cream,, yougurt or anything else you like.
Also you can decorate sweets and tartes.
