Multi-voltage benchtop power supply from broken iMac - LMSAT

in #supply6 years ago

Thought I'd salvage some parts from a broken 2005 iMac that has been in my closet for 4 years. Logic board was fried and it wasn't worth repairing.

I was working on a project that I needed 12v and 5v and didn't feel like converting the voltage with a buck converter. So among the other components I salvaged, I decided to try and repurpose the power supply for this task.

Surprisingly, it went very smoothly. Aside from the 3D print coming out terribly. I was using some old ABS and also printed the wall thickness a bit too thin.

Nonetheless, I was rewarded with a nice multi-voltage power supply that should come in handy for future electronics projects.

Hopefully you learned something or were inspired to repurpose a thing in your scrap pile!
