A walk on the Quiet Side

in #summer5 years ago (edited)

Today my wife, Katia and I took a much-needed walk together to get out of the house from the quarantine and enjoy some of this lovely sunny weather we are having.

It was interesting to see just how empty the streets were.

We normally walk along the molos "promenade" which is a lovely broad walking path which goes all the way to the harbour and all the restaurants.

This was barricaded and closed off today and even had police tape to stay clear.

The beaches were also pretty empty and it looked like a fisherman on the rocks with a bystander and a family enjoying some beach time (which I don't think is allowed at the moment)

The newspapers and the radio have asked people to refrain from visiting family or friends for meals over the Easter weekend. You need to send an SMS for permission to leave your house. Usually for between 1 - 3 hours maximum to do shopping, go for a walk or help an elderly relative with shopping.

Who would have believed that the whole world would be in a similar situation? It's a bit like a futuristic movie.

All construction has also come to a halt. I believe there are over 40 new buildings under construction in Limassol alone.

Cyprus offer a citizenship-by-investment scheme and many other incentives which have been approved in recent years have made Cyprus an attractive destination to attract both businesses and investors.

Looking forward to a semblance of normality, hopefully soon - but one wonders if life will ever be the same again. Cyprus relies heavily on tourism and April is one of the best months on the island.
