Siti Jenar; yang Kontroversi (Bilingual)
Keberadaan Siti Jenar masih menyisakan sejumlah pertayaan. Bukan saja menyangkut kebenaran cerita dan kehidupan dan ajarannya, akan tetapi kebenaran terhadap keberadaan tokoh bernama Siti Jenaru itu sendiri. Bratakesawa sendiri yang menulis falsafah Siti Jenar saja tidak mampu memberikan penjelasan yang kongkrit menyangkut keberadaannya. Walau demikian ajarannya tasawuf Siti Jenar masih hidup di sebagian masyarakat Indonesia terutama di pulau Jawa.
Keraguaan keberadaan Siti Jenar, juga diakui oleh Abdul Munir Mulkan, seorang penulis produktif yang dimiliki oleh Nusantara, juga menyebutkan “Tokoh Seh Siti Jenar mempunyai asal-usul nenek moyong lebih dari dua versi; ini betul-betul sebagai tokoh yang hadir dalam sejarah atau sekedar tokoh rekaan (fiktif)” (Baca Abdul Munir Mulkhan, Seh Siti Jenar: Pergumulan Islam-Jawai, 2000: 19-50).
Perkembangan selanjutnyapun terjadinya persandingan Siti Jenar dengan toko-tokoh sufi dunia Islam seperti al-Hallaj dan Ibnu al-Arabi. Di Nusantara selain Siti Jenar juga dikenal banyak tokoh sufi lainnya seperti Abdusshamad al-Falimbani, Abdurrauf as-Singkili, Hamzah Fansuri dan masih banyak lagi.
Ajarannya dulu ditentang, karena ajaran kemenyatuan hamba dengan Tuhannya (Manunggaling Kawula Gusti) atau lebih populer ajaran wahdatul wujud.
Para peneliti; baik dari dalam negeri maupun luar negeri telah banyak melakukan penelitian terkait keberadaan maupun ajaran tasawuf Siti Jenar ini. Berbagai teks juga telah diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Jawa, Indonesia, Inggris dan Belanda.
