When I was in fifth year, I went to Malaysia to participate in a physiology olympiad. The head of department back then, Nasim Jahan ma'am, mainly gave me this opportunity. After going there, it occurred to me that, the medical education system of our country is very much different from that of the rest of the world, and fully based on memorisation. In our country, the objective questions in any exam can be answered by memorising, without any brainstorming. But the education system abroad is situation-based, and tests your understanding.
Within this short period of life, to tell the truth I have achieved very little but whatever I have achieved,it has been only because of my honest hard work and mostly due to the tremendous support that I have got from my family and my amazing SSMC.

I didn't get golden A plus both in SSC and HSC, although all friends around me had golden A plus. But I enjoyed studying after coming to medical. Studying with viscera, the encouraging words from my teachers and everything else, sparked a special interest in me towards the human body. The human body seemed to be full of wonders, and I was eager to know about every cell of it. I always tried to be regular, but that doesn't mean I never skipped classes. I paid attention in class, even if I sat on the last bench. And this helped me a lot later. My enthusiasm towards medical science, completion of studies in time, and the support from teachers, helped me to place in prof thrice. The surgery viva of my final professional exam was taken by the legendary Mahbub sir, and it's still fresh in mind. Later, with the grace of the Almighty Allah, I stood second in the final professional exam.
The internship period has been my best time.I had tried to utilize every opportunities I got to enhance myself as a doctor. It was a great experience to work under honourable syed mahbubub alam sir and Ratu rumana madam and many others. Ratu Rumana madam who is an excellent teacher and mentor once told me “One thing I have heard about Anushka unanimously from everyone ,that is Anushka is devoid of any kind of arrogance and ego, always co-operative and friendly with everyone”. This was the best compliment that I could ever have.
When a patient comes to a doctor, the first thing he should do is, listen to what the patient says. But in many cases, instead of letting the patient speak, we start to write the prescription. That way, the disease is being treated but not the patient. But the sad truth is, the doctors have a hard time managing so many patients at a time, especially in public hospitals. But I’m sure, almost all the doctors of our country give their best effort when treating patients. During my internship, the condition of a patient in Respiratory medicine was worsening. I admitted him to ICU, in the midst of a heavy storm. He lived for only 15 days, but his relatives still call me up to thank me, recalling that night. I realize that just being an MBBS doctor,we can give a lot to people which is far more precious than attaining various degrees.
Struggles and failures are more important in your life than success is.I am still struggling with my career and with myself and I think during this time I have grown the most as a human being.I have learnt to overcome my weak points , fight back unpleasant emotions and strengthen my relationships . And lastly, I would like to say- Life is NOT a race. Live it. Love it. Pursue your Dream. Listen to your heart.
