Driven to Success

in #success8 years ago (edited)

As I was driving to work today I started thinking about all the tiny little processes that go into driving.

Even a seemingly simple task like driving a straight road really isn't that simple at all. As you go down the road sometimes the car begins to veer to the left. So what do we do? We make a microscopic adjustment to keep it in the center of the lane.

Sometimes we over adjust and now we're drifting right, so we make another adjustment.

Gravity inevitably tries to slow the vehicle down. So we make another adjustment, this time with our foot. And once we're back to the desired speed we make another adjustment to maintain it.

And all this will happen literally hundreds of times in a single trip.

Not only are we making nonstop microscopic adjustments to our steering and speed, but our eyes are constantly moving, monitoring, taking in information. Checking the mirrors, the speedometer, the horizon looking for obstacles.

And I couldn't help but think that success, in any endeavor, happens the exact same way.

As long as we know where we are, and where we want to go, the journey will be comprised of thousands and thousands of tiny microscopic adjustments to keep us on track.

Sometimes during our journey to success we start to drift off course, and if we don't make that tiny adjustment we'll eventually end up in a ditch!

Sometimes we realize that gravity is working against us and we're beginning to slow down, so we need to give it more gas.

Sometimes we're going too fast and if we don't slow down for that turn we're going to crash!

Sometimes during our journey we run into a traffic jam that slows us down and there's little that we can do but be patient.

Sometimes we come across a road block and need to find another route.

And sometimes we run out of gas and need to take a break to refuel.

Our eyes (coaches, parents, friends) are constantly monitoring our progress and telling us what adjustments we need to make. But ultimately it's up to us to make those adjustments.

My point is this.

Success is not easy, and it's not going to happen without making hundreds, if not thousands, of adjustment along the way.

And if we don't have coaches monitoring our progress we might as well try to drive to Disneyland with out eyes closed.

But in the end, as long as we don't lose track of what our destination is, and we pay attention to our coaches, we'll eventually get there.

Nice thoughts Forest,

Keeping momentum at the front of my mind!

Great post. Driving is a Trance State, akin to hypnosis. Like you say, getting inputs to make the minor adjustments...taking advice and an attitude of abundance keeps us between the lines. -Chris J, S100

Hey Forest !
Thanks for the reminder !
