What's new, Steem-fam! It looks like I have a few updates for you since the last time we spoke.
Major Trigger Rework
Arguably the most important thing that has happened since my last entry was a major rework of how we handle triggers on the one app we use for scanning books. A little backstory may give better context. The app is called FBAScan by ASellerTool and it was introduced in the Bookselling 101 course by Jim Pickens (easily the best $100 I have ever spent in my life - I'm not affiliated or make any profit from it, but here it is). In the course, Jim lays out his triggers he uses in the app for scanning books that provides him with the best returns. These are called Advanced Triggers and beyond these, there are two other trigger types: Basic and Profit Triggers. Basic Triggers are a dumbed down version of Advanced Triggers and Profit Triggers are Advanced Triggers on steroids. The company does a decent job explaining Profit Triggers but I think it is very helpful to have some logical understanding of how computer coding works before jumping deep into the triggers.
With the experience we have gained so far, I was able to flush out the Profit Triggers and now we are using them exclusively to determine which books we want to work with.
Massive Inventory Removal
With the discovery of the profit triggers, I knew that the next step was to reanalyze the inventory we had sent in to Amazon (not to mention the fact that the inventory was approaching the six month long term storage fee milestone). I went back through our inventory and purged over 300 books.
The majority of them have all come back to us and I had a chance to scan the books. Overall, it looks like the majority of the books I pulled do not even meet the criteria for FBM inventory, let alone FBA. This was an eyes-wide-open wake up call and it legitimized the use of the new profit triggers. Confidence and direction have been restored in our processing game. It's been a hell of a learning experience.
Warehouse Finalization, Another Bookstore
Tomorrow early in the morning, we will be meeting with Gary, the owner of the warehouse, to finalize our rental payment and to purchase the inventory that's currently in the warehouse. The final tally comes to $700 for the inventory and $125 for first month's rent.
There is another huge opportunity on the horizon - a bookstore that has to liquidate by the summer and it's a big one. I have to play the cards close to the chest for the moment but if things play out, this could be about twice the unprocessed inventory we currently have.
What I'd like to speak on is the change in how we are going to handle this next acquisition whether it is this large bookstore or not. We are planning (and more importantly taking action) on making a direct contact with our local Salvation Army to provide gaylords for filling with books that we are not interested in. The only things we will be boxing up are books we want to sell on Amazon. This is so... so important to saving time and it is critical in any mass acquisition we win going forward.
