Old Sturbridge Village is a living museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, in the United States, which re-creates life in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s. It is the largest living museum in New England, covering more than 200 acres (80 hectares). The Village includes 59 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm. The museum is a popular tourist and educational field trip destination. Costumed interpreters speaking in modern language help visitors understand 19th-century life.Located adjacent to Old Sturbridge Village, the Inn & Lodges offer the historic ambiance of the 10-room Oliver Wight House, and the comfort and convenience of 29 modern lodging units in a cul-de-sac like setting. Pay just once and return to the Village multiple times with a Season Pass! Take in the beautiful scenery as it changes through spring, summer, and fall. The Season Pass pays for itself and more with just 2 visits. At The Sleepy Hollow Experience, guests will be ghoulishly guided through the Village’s countryside where they will encounter Ichabod Crane, Katrina Van Tassel, Brom Bones and quite possibly the Headless Horseman. Please note that each outdoor performance is approximately 1.5 hours long, and requires standing and walking. Performances are rain or shine. If the evening is a rainout, a modified version of The Sleepy Hollow Experience will take place in Old Sturbridge Village’s Stephen M. Brewer Theater.
The walk from the tavern to the main village was so cool with torches, people in masks pointing towards where you were supposed to go, and the sign "sleepy hollow" above the bridge was a nice touchThe fires burning on the water and the smell of it along with the cool air added to the ambiance The first barn you walked through had pictures of the characters and a spooky narration as you walked through which helped set the mood even furtherActors were WONDERFUL and had beautiful voicesAlthough I am aware (since I live in New England) it was nice to have a reminder to dress in layers and even to bring blankets. If you like history this is the place for you. Old Sturbirdge Village is a recreated 1830 rural New England farming village. They have brought in 40 buildings that represent life at that time. The en-actors are very knowledgeable and friendly. They explain how life was at that time period and give you a real feel of the area.
