Smartphone Street Photography

Hello Steemians!

Today I'll share a photo more in line with what I usually do, which is street photography - and this will also be my entry to @juliank's #streetphotography contest.

Street photography, to me, is where you separate those that take pictures from true Photographers - with capital p, yes.
It lives off of your powers of observation, both in terms of situations and graphic content and, of course, light; it's not about your ability to manipulate light in a controlled environment, but the much harder task of noticing - or even anticipating - what's already there.
It's you and your camera against an indifferent world.

As I often do when I need to think, I went for a walk on this day. It turned out to be quite a productive afternoon, photographically speaking.

This shot was simply turning my head to the alley as I was passing by, noticing the scene and grabbing my phone as fast as possible to take the shot.

I had to crop it slightly, something that I shy away from as much as possible because the camera on the iPhone 5s only has 8MP to begin with.

It's the sort of shot that screams for black & white treatment.

Olá Steemianos!

Hoje partilho uma fotografia mais na linha do que geralmente fotografo, que é fotografia de rua - e é simultaneamente a foto que submeto ao concurso de #streetphotography do @juliank.

Fotografia de rua, a meu ver, é onde se separam os meninos dos homens; é onde se vê quem é que é, de facto, Fotógrafo - com f maiúsculo e tudo.
Vive do poder de observação, quer no que toca às situações quer a nível de conteúdo gráfico, e, obviamente, da luz; não trata da capacidade de manipular luz em ambiente controlado, mas sim da tarefa mais exigente de reconhecer - e antecipar - boa luz.
Somos nós e a câmara contra um mundo indiferente.

Como é costume quando preciso de pensar, fui fazer uma caminhada. O resultado foi um dia muito produtivo, fotograficamente falando.

Esta fotografia resumiu-se a virar a cabeça para o beco quando o cruzei, reparar na cena que estava prestes a acontecer e tirar o telemóvel do bolso tão depressa quanto possível para não falhar a oportunidade.

Tive de fazer um pequeno crop, algo que evito tanto quanto possível dado que a câmara do iPhone 5s só tem 8MP.

É o tipo de imagem que implora por uma conversão a preto & branco.
