Jewish Ghetto (Warsaw)
Poland once had the largest population of Jews in the world, but after the Nazis invaded, 3 million were murdered and the population was nearly wiped out. Many survivors fled and never returned in the face of the following Soviet anti-Semitism.
Warsaw Ghetto
Current data estimates a Jewish population in Poland of around 20,000, one of the lowest in Europe.
When visiting memorials and museums in Poland, it really hits you that although the Allies did liberate many death camps, the Nazis had actually succeeded in their mission of total elimination in a great part of the country.
State-sanctioned hatred and criminal indifference at work.
