RE: Shaka's Travel Photo Book, Entry #1 - Luís de Camões Square, Lagos (Portugal)
I'm a map person, and a history person. Usually colonialists imposed names of their home country on conquered lands. This is kind of reverse colonialism. I was curious and guessed that it must be tied to the slave trade. Sure enough.. Lagos was the entry point for slaves coming into Europe. Fascinating. Looked it up: https://www.theportugalnews.com/news/new-lagos-museum-focuses-on-citys-role-in-european-slavery-trade/26858
Did you see references to this history (as slave trading port) while you were there?
Yes, it was Lagos to were the very first slaves were brought to Europe. The African voyages of the Portuguese started all this. I had visited the old slave market, whose building still exists. But I didn't take photos of it.
