Ugliest in Winter

Daddy: It’s Tuesday the 9th of January 1996. A quarter to nine in the evening, and it's bedtime for Emerald and Robert. What would you like in the story tonight?
Robert: Ugie.
Daddy: One night, when Emerald and Robert were fast asleep, suddenly there was a thunderstorm outside, and it woke Robert up and he thought "I don't want to be here in this thunderstorm. I think I'll go and see my friend Ugie".
So he got into his treasure chest, and in the treasure chest there was a secret door. He went through the secret door, through a long tunnel, and came out in a secret garden where the sun was always shining and the birds were always singing. It was always summertime.
Robert: It was sometimes winter. I came when it was winter.
Daddy: But that time, when Robert came, it was winter.
Robert: And it was the coldest day in the world.
It was very cold in the secret garden that day, and Robert saw some enormous footprints in the secret garden. Did he know whose those were?
Robert: Ugie's
There were footprints all over the place, going up and down. Robert thought "I'll follow these footprints and see if I can find Ugie".
So he followed the footprints, and after a while he saw Ugie behind a huge tree. And he said to Ugie "Why are you out walking in this cold weather Ugie?"
And Ugie said "I've run out of mushrooms, and I'm looking for some more. There's usually lots here."
But Robert said "Mushrooms don't grow in the winter, Ugie."
Ugie said "What do mean?"
Robert said "it's never been winter here before, has it?"
Ugie said "No, it's always summer time. But now it's winter, and I'm feeling a bit cold. I haven't even got a fireplace in my castle, because it's always summertime".
And Robert said "Well, I'm afraid there won't be any mushrooms here".
Ugie said "I'm so cold and hungry. What shall I do?
Robert: I waited a bit and all the snow melted.
Emerald: I went in my time machine and I dialled 11134 and that took me to when it was summer and all the mushrooms were growing.
Robert: and there was no Ugie.
And Emerald said "Ugie, all you have to do is get into my time machine and we'll go straight forward to summer time.
Robert: He was too big
Daddy: He was rather big, so Robert said "You'll need a special getting-smaller spell first, so you can get in the time machine”.
Ugie said "I don't want to get any smaller because then I won't be a giant any more, and I might not be able to turn back".
So Robert had a brilliant idea. He said "Why don't we do a getting-bigger spell on the time machine?"
So Emerald and Robert got into the time machine and Robert said the biggest getting-bigger spell that he had - and what was it?
Robert: Mattaty Pattaty Attaty Pat Make the time machine grow as big as the house!
Daddy: And the time machine grew as gig as a house, but it still wasn't big enough for Ugie to get in.
So Ugie said "I'm much bigger than a house". You'd made it bigger but it still wasn't quite big enough.
Emerald: And I said Mastapy Bastapy Caspaty Vastaty Make my time machine as big as the whole world!
Daddy: And suddenly, they couldn't see the time machine anywhere at all.
Robert: It was so big.
Daddy: Because the whole world was inside it.
And Emerald said "This is amazing. We can make the world go to whatever time we want, and everything in it. So Emerald turned the dial to summertime.
Suddenly, the sun came up very high and the snow started to melt and the birds started to sing and all the flowers started to grow.
Robert said "it's working". Ugie said "Where are the mushrooms?
Emerald said "Just wait a minute".
Suddenly, Emerald fell over on the ground. And Robert fell over on the ground. Do you know why?
Emerald: Mushrooms had grown...
Daddy: Mushrooms had grown underneath their feet and knocked them over. Ugie said "look at those mushrooms! I've never seen any grow so fast." So he picked up a mushroom and sniffed it and ate it. And do you know what colour it was?
Robert: No
Emerald: Red and spotty
Daddy: I'm afraid it was Ugie's favourite mushroom, which was red with white spots. And Emerald shouted "Don't eat that Ugie!" but it was too late, Ugie had eaten it. He said "Those are my favourite mushrooms".
Robert said "You silly giant! You know those are poisonous mushrooms".
"Oh, I forgot that" said Ugie "but they are so delicious, and I don't feel ill at all. I'm going back to my castle now". As he turned to go to the castle, he suddenly said "Oooh, my tummy! Owww, oh my tummy hurts! Quick, help me!"
Robert: Why My motorbike was in the garage and then it turned on on its own and went so fast it crashed though the garage door without breaking and then it drived all the way to me. Then I said a getting-bigger spell on my motorbike and it made it just the right size for Ugie.
Daddy: That was good. And he held on as tight as tight as he could, although his tummy was hurting. And where did you drive to?
Robert: To the land of Boss...
Daddy: Had to go to the Boss of the Wizards, and they knocked on his huge castle gates and said "Boss of the Wizards, can you help us?" And he said "Is that you, Robert and Emerald? What have you come for this time?" What did Robert say?
Robert: Then I said the secret word that was OpenOpenOpenDoor
Daddy: and the door suddenly opened wide. And then Robert went in, and what happened next?
Robert: When I had went in I brought Ugie too, and the house was just right for Ugie.
Daddy: The wizard said "Who is this enormous giant? He only just fits inside my castle. And he doesn't look very well - his face has gone all green. What's the matter with you?"
Robert: And I said "He's eaten one poisonous mushroom."
Daddy: "What a silly thing to do!" said the Boss of the Wizards "I suppose you want a spell to make him better?"
Emerald: And never eat poisonous mushrooms again.
Daddy: Oh, do you think that spell will work?" said the Boss of the Wizards "because he looks a bit silly, this giant. I don't think any spell would make him remember that". But Emerald said "Yes you can do it. Give me your spell book and I'll find one". So she got the wizard's spell book and opened it.
Robert: And then he gave me one, and I opened it, and I said "PappaPooPap, Abbababap Make Ugie never eat poisonous mushrooms again!"
And then I said a spell to him that says "Pappapoolap Appapanap Make Ugie always eat Un-poisonous mushrooms".
Daddy: Well that sounds a pretty good spell said the wizard, but what about you Emerald, have you got any good spells?"
Emerald: Yes, and I said Cashabajoo Demenchacatookeh MakeBabakicobaticoo Make Ugie stop eating poisonous mushrooms and if you find a purple one he will find secret things that will help him to be warm and cosy in his house."
Daddy: "That's a good idea" said the wizard, because if it is winter again in the Secret Garden, Ugie won't need a fire, because he'll always be warm and cosy". And Ugie suddenly felt a lot better and said "I feel a lot better now, but I'm rather hungry. Are there any mushrooms in this castle?"
And the wizard said "You'd better go back to the Secret Garden now".

Robert: Why My motorbike was in the garage and then it turned on on its own and went so fast it crashed though the garage door without breaking and then it drived all the way to me. Then I said a getting-bigger spell on my motorbike and it made it just the right size for Ugie.`
Daddy: That was good. And he held on as tight as tight as he could, although his tummy was hurting. And where did you drive to?
Robert: To the land of Boss...
Daddy: Had to go to the Boss of the Wizards, and they knocked on his huge castle gates and said "Boss of the Wizards, can you help us?" And he said "Is that you, Robert and Emerald? What have you come for this time?" What did Robert say?
