The Accident

The accident happened on the Interstate 84 10 miles South-East of Boise, Idaho, at 2PM on Tuesday, September 18th, 2029.

The truck was going from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland. The road was clear, it had not been raining in the last 24 hours, and the temperature was 20°C (68°F).

The truck has suddenly changed lane to pass a slower truck, while a car was on his left passing the truck. Both the car and the truck ended in the central median. Two of the four passengers were injured, but fortunately, nobody died.

Nestor learned about the accident around 6PM. With Moana, they decided to go to Boise during the night. They hesitated between taking Nestor's car and one of their truck. They finally decided to take a truck, as it was easier for one of them to drive while the other was awake in the cabin.

Leaving their house around 7PM, they arrived at the location of the accident at 7AM, after an eleven hours trip. Each of them had slept 4 to 5 hours only.

The car had already been removed, but the truck was still there. Both the tractor and the trailer were lying on their right side.

Two inspectors from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) where there, as well as officers of the Idaho State Police. A representative from the Coeur d'Alene company that sold the truck was expected.

Nestor introduced himself to the NTSB and to the police officers and said that they were available to help in the investigation.

The NTSB had just extracted the recording box from the truck, but they did not have the software to analyze its content. Nestor told them that they could do the analysis on one of his laptops, and he would help in the analysis.

He emphasized that he was in no way trying to escape their responsibilities: if there was some deficiencies in the NeMo code, they wanted to know as soon as possible.
