St Valentine's controversy
It was quite a heated argument that ensued between myself and two others by 7:45pm on the 12th day of February 2018. The topic of that argument was simply today's date, February 14th. One of them, I'd call Kendrick, told me that his church would be organising a 7:30am-9:45pm program for youths on Valentine's Day. This is with the motive to prevent the young people from having the time to misbehave on that day 'in the name of love'. My take on this was, and still is, any church that fixes such program with such motive, has trust issues. Why? This is because they don't have enough confidence in their young people. I mean there is no pre-ordained evil-breeze from hell that will come to carry you to someone's bed on Valentine's Day. There will always be February 15th, and the days that follow. More so, u believe that these 21st century youths are too preoccupied with purpose discovery to have pre-marital sex/lack of self control as an issue.
The motive and methods of celebrating St Valentine's Day is a choice. It varies from person to person. Some choose to show love to the less privileged, others say it's paganism and don't do anything at all, some say it's anti-Christ, some others have decided to sleep with a targeted number of persons on Valentine's Day as an achievement of love.
However, let's remember the history and central theme behind St Valentine's Day which is love and sacrifice. Love is giving. Sacrifice is pain. Let Mr Giving and Miss Sacrifice be our dates on St Valentine's Day.
I love you Steemians. It feels good to be back. I've been away for a while.
