Single Cell Conversation
The two men sat in a cell talking about their crimes.
One had been a cop, believe it or not... and the other a teacher.
The teacher sat against the wall and bumped his head slowly until the former law enforcer asked the age old prison question
''What are you in for?''
''Life for life,'' he solemnly replied.
The man that only remembered his badge and blue hated the orange and repeated the answer himself.
''Me too. Life for life,'' he muttered. ''Shot.''
''Bit,'' the teacher said.
Shocked, the cop feared his cage housed a cannibal.
The teacher saw his surprise and gave the explanation.
''Trained a dog... read a book about vendetta.''
''Routine day... chased a thief into a clinic of death. The thief entered the room, but life's last cry had been its first,'' the policeman said and held his hands and twisted his shirt.
''I killed a doctor,'' said the policeman.
''I premeditated murder.''
''Sometimes I get cake.''
The policeman smiled.
''Sometimes the boy sends me a letter too... thanking me.''
''Life for life?''
''Life for life.''

This poem is also the basis of my fourth novel. I am yet to publish my first, but you know... a man has to practice.
