What If Nobody is Weak?

in #story6 years ago

You ever hear the phrase; "You're only as strong as your weakest member?" What if that weakest member was trying their hardest? Who is the one that judges effort? Today, I present you a short story of some observations I made during a commute.

I was riding the bus home after I went to get my new ID done. Much of that time was spent spacing out, over heaven knows what. The bus was crowded beyond belief in the middle of the day, and for good reason. With parking becoming more expensive, many people—self included, found it more beneficial to be using public transit. Enough back story.

I had made a long list of errands I wanted to get done that day, but every stop took what felt like forever. It couldn't just be me... I was becoming irate. As our bus began pulling away from a stop not too far from home, I saw a person rush up to the side of the bus to get on. The bus stopped, and the driver let them on.

"This is why everyone is late to everything."

There's always that one person, just a moment too late, pulling everyone behind schedule with them. If we are only as good as the weakest person, then what's the point if they aren't trying hard enough?

That's where I caught myself...
How many times have I been that person?

Taking initiative and trying the hardest that I possibly could to get somewhere—literally. Deadlines do matter, and sometimes you simply cannot be late. I would use every last ounce of my energy to chase after a bus I needed to be on, because the next one wouldn't be in time for the very thing I needed.

It's an intensely thin line... Between being an "unskilled" professional, and a "top pick" amateur, indistinguishable in most cases. Yet depending on what the grass looks like from where our own vantage points lie, we never fail to compare and judge another's aptitude to ourselves, and our immediate surroundings.

That unorganized a hole who held up everyone on the bus by a minute, may have just secured a key moment in his life that could change his future permanently... He could just be horrible at planning.

Perspective is everything.

SpaceX? Where's our teleporters Mr. Musk?

Unfortunately everybody is weak which is why we need decentralization. If everyone were invincible we could just choose one person to control the world.

Your perspective isn't wrong. We need to reach a state where there is enough to go around, and I still believe that no one elite group should dictate everyone. When the world can finally work together as a team, that's when we will reach peaks and growth which was once unobtainable!
