NOT Virtue Signalling, but SERIOUSLY: Why is THIS Not Being Addressed?

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Horrifying stories of entitled, powerful male Jerks are being brought up everywhere: Yet when the world witnessed this in 2006, this jerk isn't being brought up?!?

When seen on TV, 11 years ago, I couldn't believe it yet... NOTHING.

No reprimand, no apologies, ZERO consequence.

Bloody garbage.

Hey! Not cool.

Nor was his response:

The interviewers' first question?

"What do you make of what happened to you on the red carpet?"

SERIOUSLY?!?

Like that wasn't a planned address of a man in power touching a woman completely inappropriately, then celebrating, TWICE

"I touched Charlotte's boob, I touched Charlotte's boob! 😀🤗"

Baloney, obviously (probably) planted question, watch his body language: At the start, upright, hahaha brushing it off, by the end, hunched over in obvious shame.

Psshhhh.

Interesting how deep this is buried in the YouTube feed; had to link the boob grab (that we ALL saw, 11 years ago, when we all used to watch television...) from a little viewed foreign language translation YouTube clip of an American tv program...

Bloody hell...

I hope that poor lady saw the worst of it there on the red carpet.

I got mad watching it at home: That was NOT ok.

Again, I'm not virtue signaling, or whatever term men are using in the last minute to identify with women to 'connect' with them in order to have intercourse with them later.

I'm pointing out what I thought was a gross act of indencency one human being committed on another.

I don't care how that individual sexually identifies. That was clearly surprised, unwanted touching, i.e. assault.

For all the world to witness.

Dude who did that, who brushed it off like it was nothing, after a perhaps thoroughly planned interview addressing it, saying it was "...just natural..."

Maybe it was. For an incredibly talented, prolific designer known the world over.

Yet not explicitly communicating that it was wrong? In the moment, when you confess in an interview that you KNEW it was wrong?!?

I'm a man.

That was a message belittled, then explained away, with no admonishon that those actions were wrong.

Poor choice of words following poor action.

😔🤦‍♂️

Sort:

Or maybe it was because he is gay and somehow thought groping a woman doesn't count - like it was a just one of the girls groping another girl. Does that extend to a man grabbing another mans ass?

Listen dude, if someone has contracted you to do a fitting and has an understanding about "manhandling" (perfect word for it right?) of their body parts that is one thing. As for other people, in public, without consent? You're lucky she didn't bitch slap your grabby ass and immediately call a lawyer!

Exactly!
Then disregarding the actions away in an interview after the fact...
Gross! Especially after remarking that others identified that behavior as thoroughly inappropriate.
C'mon!

Perhaps the most important quote in this book:
"A man is afraid a woman will laugh at him.
A woman is afraid a man will kill her."
It's not the same as one man grabbing another man's ass.
Not even close.

"A man is afraid a woman will laugh at him. A woman is afraid a man will kill her."

Indeed. I can't imagine having that lodged at the back of my mind my entire life. I mean what percentage of violent crime is committed by men in the US?

Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter 88.7%
Forcible rape 99.1
Robbery 87.0%
Aggravated assault 77.1%

Source: FBI 2012 crime stats

And I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that of the 11.3% of murders and non-negligent manslaughters committed by women a good deal of them were likely acts of self-defense that they were not able to get adequate defense for because self-defense can be really hard to prove without witnesses - who might only be kids - and things like psychological battery aren't widely recognized. Plus many Americans don't get any quality legal representation at all.

PS. Just wanted to be clear that I was only saying perhaps he thought being gay gives him a free pass to be "one of the girls" and as such could write it off as a same-sex thing, you know "just a bro-hug with ass squeeze for a laugh" and if that was what he thought, or rationalized it as afterwards, he was oh so wrong. And I'm probably doing gay people a gross injustice to imply that anyway - although many of my gay friends do have close girlfriends who treat them almost like girlfriends too, those are very familiar relationships developed over years. They don't go around man-handling the breasts of the women they meet. As for men they meet at a nightclub club wearing chaps or whatever? Who knows... ;-) But that plays precisely into the what men and women are afraid of narrative you introduced.
