Another Story: Reflection on an Unknown Memory

It was the fifth of November when I came to visit grandma and pa. I wouldn't come if mom and dad were still alive, not that I don't care. When I was still at the age of 15, we always had to visit them every month, I didn't know the reason. Maybe they wanted to spend more time with the family and their loved ones because hey, life is short. You'll never know when you'll die.

The long travel from home to grandma's seemed like an oh so sweet bond to me. Some chitchats with my dad and mom whose giggles were like my lullaby. And with just a single snap, everything was different. Everything was dull. I had not been informed of the happenings in their town, even. Mom and dad was my only way of keeping updated.

Just then, one night grandma called asking me to come visit them. I didn't even know where she got my number. But then I shrugged the thought after realizing that I missed them.

I turned to Google Maps and searched their town as I made my way to my car.
Hours passed, my phone ran out of power.
"My map!" I panicked since I forgot to bring a charger.

I looked outside as I search for people to help me find my grandparents' house.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where St. Mare street is?" I asked the man beside the mailbox.

"There's no St. Mare street here", that's what the man and all the other people I asked replied.

I got confused, maybe a bit pissed because I know that the street is around here and I remember some of the few houses here too. I kept searching and roaming around until night breeze touched my nose. I had a feeling I was so close as if I could smell grandma's cooking but I didn't know where it was coming from. And for some reason this town felt strange.

Stressed and tired, I needed a quick nap. I stopped by the edge of the road and looked at the sky. There were no streetlights nor stars, just the moon. Staring at the perfect round shaped moon made me remember my mom. We always looked at it together while singing lullabies.

Then sleep came to visit me.

The birds sang and woke me up. "It's day time?" I thought. I looked around and saw a house. Oh wait, that's grandma's house! I jumped out of excitement. What a coincidence! I hurriedly went near the house and stepped into the old house.

"Grandma I'm here!" I shouted. My knees felt weak when silence echoed through the walls. I closed my eyes once, then twice, trying to understand what's happening. Realizing that the house looked abandoned for many years, I got anxious and worried.

Suddenly I felt nauseous and dizzy until I fell onto the wooden floor...

I saw an old clock just a few inches away from me. It was not the clock hands that I noticed but the reflection on its glass casing... it was someone else. A reflection of someone else...

It gave me goosebumps. And suddenly I remembered that I don't have any grandparents, that I grew up in an orphanage. But... it made me smile because somehow I was able to experience having grandparents and parents even though it was someone else's memories...

I was just browsing my gallery when I thought "why not make a story based on these pictures?" :D

Thanks for reading!
