RE: The Writer: Basic Guide To Writing Poetry

in #story7 years ago

I love most styles of writing, but poetry is an art that I've never mastered -- or even reached apprentice level in. When reading poetry, I'm very hit and miss on what I enjoy. Some pieces hit me in the feels, but most kinda feel like gobbledegook. And trying to write poetry of my own has always intimidated me.

But maybe I should give it another shot. Or at least try to understand some of the work I've passed over a bit better. Thanks!

This reminds me of my first creative writing course I took in college. It was through learning about the craft, tools and devices we learned to appreciate the stories we were studying.

I know what you mean. Writing is my passion and I do it everyday of my life, but poetry is different than writing fiction, most poetry is like you said said "gobbledegook," but the poems that I do enjoy touch me in a deep way. I have a hard time writing poetry as well, I have found the best time for me to write poetry is when I experience something that has great emotional impact in my life, then the words of poetry will flow. To me poetry that doesn't have emotion is dead. Thank you for the reply.
