Ever wonder what the future will be like when entire networks are reworked to run without central authorities? Machines govern themselves on autonomous software protected by block chain technology. Welcome to a day in the decentralized future.

Today is Thursday...

You awake to the shrill sound of your alarm clock at 6:00 am on a cool, quiet April morning. As you shrug off the drowsy covering of the early morning hours your television springs to life. The sounds of The People’s News Network echo throughout your apartment. As you lay in your comfortable king bed slowly blinking your eyes open and stretching your arms toward the ceiling you wonder who’s been voted as this month’s host.

It feels good to know that gone are the days of Good Morning America being one of the only news sources to awaken to. The 6 major media companies who had controlled the narratives for so long through their programming have found themselves competing with new crowd funded networks to get viewership and ratings. People finally realized that the goal was never to deliver news and entertainment to the masses, but instead only to promote political agendas, spread propaganda, and sell product after product to fund the lavish lifestyles of a privileged few. The system wasn’t so much corrupt as it was outdated.

Over the years as stations relied more and more on advertising dollars, which had eventually led to every program becoming nothing more than one big commercial. The goal of attracting advertisers had become paramount to creating informative news or truly entertaining television. Now the people control what they want to see. The choices are now many, and the best content gets voted to the top using the UHID (Unique Human Identifier). The use of the UHID and block chain technology ensures that every person not only gets to vote, but votes don’t get duplicated or fraudulently entered into the system. Not only that, but many shows cycle through hosts and have come up with brand new formats.

“The Voice UK” was among the first to introduce new ideas like crowd tipping options to their programs. Bitcoin QR Codes for each contestant began appearing on screen during performances allowing viewers to send funds directly to the singers based on who they really supported. It became not only a singing talent show, but a contest between the viewers to see which fans were the most die hard. On the first season finale to allow the tipping, the losing contestant raised $1,000,000 through micro donations and she didn’t even win the show. This was only the beginning.

That was the spark that made people realize that programming didn’t have to be controlled by so few. The power was in the hands of us all. There were funding drives to purchase equipment used by the pros, purchase programming blocks, and even build entire studios. The term “strength in numbers” took on a whole new meaning. As the smell of roasting coffee wafts into the room you figure now’s as good a time as any to get up and see who was voted to host the People’s News Network this month. You move to get off of the bed and have to stop mid swing. Did you hear your name? As the thought hangs in your mind, your phone vibrates and lights up on the night stand…
