What can the world learn from Bob Marley?

in #story6 years ago

In my last post I talked about Bob Marley’s songs.(see link below)
I am not only fascinated by Marley’s songs, but also by his sayings. If you watch interviews made with him, you will hear the most interesting things.

A few Bob Marley’s quotes:

”The people who are trying to make this world worse aren’t taking a day off. How can I?”

″I handle fame by not being famous.″

″When I checked it out, the biggest man on earth was a baby some time. ″

"If my life is just for me, my own security, then I don't want it. My life is for people. That is the way I am."

″Live for yourself and you will live in vain. Live for others, and you will live again. ″

″Possessions make you rich? I don’t have those type of riches.... My riches is life."

"Money can’t buy life. ″

Great things that Bob Marley did:

According to Kabaka Pyramid, a Jamaican reggae artist, Bob Marley’s had the willingness to sometimes play for free in order to get his message out.

Although Bob Marley wrote the song "No Woman, No Cry", he gave the songwriter’s credit to a man named Vincent Ford, who ran a soup kitchen in Trenchtown Jamaica. All the royalties from this song funded the operation of the soup kitchen

Bunny Wailer told a funny story about Bob about Marley’s method to cure for stage fright. Bob would take Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh to a local Kingston graveyard at 2 a.m. to practice their vocals and harmonies. Bob thought that if you could sing there you would never be nervous singing anywhere else. 😂

According to biographer Chris Salewicz, Bob was looking after a lot of people. When school time was about to begin hundreds of mothers would line up to ask for school materials and Bob Marley helped.

Chris Salewicz tells an unusual anecdote of how he had finished an interview with Bob Marley. He was talking to Bob saying good bye. Due Salewicz was heading to New York, he had a heavy coat draped over his bag. Bob picked up Salewicz’s coat and moved it into the shade. Bob said it was so the sun wouldn't bleach it. There aren't many A-list stars that would ever do that.

Photographer Dennis Morris (who was born in Jamaica, but grow up in England) first met Bob Marley when Morris was 16 years old. It was the first time the Wailers toured in England. Morris asked Bob if he could take his picture. Bob agreed and also invited Morris to come in the club so he could watch the sound check of the band. They talked and Bob invited him to tour with him and allowed him to take pictures all during the time they spend together.
In an interview Morris tells that like Bob Marley, he did not grow up with his father. Bob Marley gave him the confidence in himself to be a photographer. Marley told him: You are always going to be told that you cannot do it, but you can do it, you have to believe in yourself that you can do it.

What can we learn from Bob Marley?

Bob always said he had a mission and once he said that he will live forever. Despite his relatively short life in this world, he left is a great heritage for this world.
What can we learn from this legendary man?

  1. The fact that you grew up poor, does not mean that you need to stay poor your whole life. Make a plan, stick to it and work hard to achieve your goals.
When Bob Marley grew up he and his family were poor, but Marley worked very hard to achieve his dreams. He was persistent and did not stop for anything.

  2. Don’t let the absence of one or both of your parents when growing up determine your life. Forgive and move on, make sure that you become a better person.
Sometimes people tend to say: Because I did not have my father (or mother) as a child, I became this or that.
Bob Marley grew up without a father. Nevertheless he managed to fight all his fears, frustrations and other demons to become the man he was. Although he had many children by different mothers, he was there for his children.

  3. If things don’t turn out the way you planned it, change your plan and continue to focus on your goal.
In 1974 Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston left The Wailers. Bob could have thought that was the end of the band. But no, he changed the plan, looked for other people, rearranged the band and the success of the band was bigger.

  4. If some apparent misfortune occurs in your life, try to stay calm and accept it. Think positive and something better will come.
Lee Perry sold tracks of the Wailers in England without their permission. What a tragedy right? Maybe you would have killed the man. But this terrible incident resulted in a great experience, because due to this happening The Wailers were noticed by Chris Blackwell.

  5. On your way to success you may encounter people who want to get you out of the way. Be strong, stay focused on your goal and never give up!
In 1976 an attempt was made on Bob Marley’s life. Contrary to what another person may have done, Marley did not cancel his presentation; instead he showed up and performed with two bullet wounds.

  6. When you get fatal news, don’t fall apart, stay positive and keep going on. It’s only fatal when you declare it fatal in your mind. Instead focus on the people you love and the things that you love to do. Enjoy life more than ever.
When Bob Marley was diagnosed with cancer in 1977, he did not fall apart. He continued to work on his projects and his success became bigger.

  7. You are not strong on certain areas of your life? Don’t worry; the use of any trick can help you to achieve your goal.
    Weakness: Stage fright
Trick: Bob’s witty cure, practicing in the graveyard at 2 a.m. 😆

  8. On your way to success don’t become greedy, take it step by step and keep your goal in mind. A small give up may be a big achievement in the future.
Bob Marley was willing to play for free; he never lost sight of his target.

  9. When you get rich (with Steemit), keep being humble.
Bob Marley did not see himself as famous and even when he became famous international artist, he remained humble.

  10. When you are at the top remember others in need. If you can help others, do it. Sharing is caring.
When he became rich, Marley helped many in his country Jamaica. He did not forget how it felt when he was poor.

  11. If your voice has an influence, don’t use it to destroy but use it to make peace.
Knowing that he could influence the people of Jamaica, Bob Marley made use of the opportunity to show political peace at the One Love Concert of 1978.

  12. Encourage others. (photographer)
When Bob Marley met the young Dennis Morris he encouraged Morris by telling him that it was possible for him to achieve his dreams, all he had to do is believe in himself.

So steemians take hold of the lessons from the life of this wonderful man and let’s work together in order for each one of us to reach our goals.💪 📣 💰
