Being able to give your little ones the best nutrition through your own body is one of the best things about becoming a mother. 3 years ago, as they put my first born in my arms for the first time a few seconds after he was born, the first latch happened. And I knew from that moment (even when i knew less to nothing about breastfeeding) that I was going to do my best to give him the best things the world has to offer. That's when our breastfeeding journey began...
I didn't know it was not as easy as it seemed. My mother breastfed me and all my siblings since day 1 and I knew she had more milk supply than we needed so she was able to donate some to other babies. However, my first experience was quite disappointing since it wasn't what I expected. This journey needed a lot of time, effort and support from the people around me. Having a full time job adds to the challenge. After 7 months, I became pregnant again with my second child so it caused a dip in my milk supply.
I then decided to educate myself more about breastfeeding. I joined forums and facebook groups. I read stories of other mothers'journeys and challenges. I decided that I would do tandem breastfeeding when my second child gets born. I prepared myself to become a better mother. I was able to do that successfully. Exclusively breastfeeding my infant and toddler for the first 6months.
Fastforward to today, 3 years have past. I know that we are almost at the end of our journey since they are growing up so quickly and soon will be going to school. It made our bond strong. It sometime makes me emotional to think that one day they won't be as close to me as they are now. But being blessed with great milk supply and kids who prefer my breasts than artificial nipples(no nipple confusion ever), made this journey so memorable and worthwhile. Kudos to all mothers who sacrificed a lot to continue this journey til the end(self wean).
