Unfulfilled Promise

Cherry pushed the tenement yard gate open then ascended the steps that led to the houses that were arranged in a straight line. She ran to Miss Grant's door and knocked, then shouted:

" Miss Grant, Miss Grant, Feather is dead."

At the sound of her voice, Miss Grant opened the door, then said, "What are you saying, Feather is dead?"

Before Cherry could respond, Miss Grant fell to the ground.

"Help, help" cried Cherry. Then she yelled out." Carol, Tony come help me with Miss Grant, she has fainted".

The tenants ran and all struggled to take Miss Grant off the ground onto a small stool in a sitting position. Cherry slapped her on her cheeks:
"Wake up, said Cherry.
"Pass that fold of newspaper from the tree and let me fan her," said Carol.
"Do you know what has happened, Cherry?" asked Tony.
"I just told her that Feather is dead"
"What?" Both neighbours looked at each other in astonishment!
Just then Miss Grant groaned then looked at them All three looked at her in silence.
