Omnisciens-incomplete

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone. I wasn't going to post this, but my best friend convinced me to. This story is tentatively titled "Omnisciens" and it's extremely incomplete. I don't know if I'll finish it, but I wanted some critique on what I've got, which isn't much. So, thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy and I will be adding to the story whenever inspiration strikes so it's gonna get longer and change as I think of new ideas.

Prologue:

Amelia Jensen was born on Earth on October 7, 1987 to parents Albert and Helen Jensen. Due to her mother's addiction to drugs, Amelia was born addicted to crack. She managed to hold on for three weeks before she passed away at the hospital on October 29. Albert and Helen were permitted to say goodbye to their daughter.

When they showed up at the hospital, they were met by a tall woman in a starched lab coat.
She asked them if they would be willing to sell their daughter’s body to her and before she could get another word out, Albert practically shouted “Yes!” The woman's face stayed impassive as she calmly asked them how much they wanted. Helen said “One million dollars, no more, no less.”
So the woman reached into the pocket of her lab coat and pulled out a handful of hundred dollar bills, counted what she needed and handed it over. She then asked them to follow her to see Amelia one last time and led them to the morgue.

When they walked into the morgue, the woman led them to a chamber and told them to stand on the white line. She then pushed a couple buttons and the couple stared blankly ahead.
When she was finished with Helen and Albert, she grabbed her clipboard and asked a few questions; “What are your names?”
“Albert and Helen Jensen. ”
“Where do you live?”
“1524 Albatross Lane, Bath, Ohio.”
“How many children do you have?”
“None.”
“You may leave now.”
Helen and Albert Jensen stared blankly ahead and smiled stupidly as they walked out of the morgue to continue their life full of drug use, never to be seen again.

The woman pressed a button on what looked to be a key fob and the chamber disappeared. Then she went to Amelia's body, placed a circular device on her head with her hand over her heart, and took a deep breath. Heat spread from her fingers and the device did its job to revive the baby and purge her system of the drugs. There was a flash of light and Amelia opened her eyes to look up at the woman.

“Your new name will be Ynl, it means undying.” The woman had already erased all record of Amelia's birthday and existence on Earth so she picked her up and they teleported away leaving no trace.

3 Rotations Later

“She seems fine, physically. You say she's having nightmares and headaches?”
While not uncommon to their society(?), headaches happened only to humans, and then only to a handful of them. Nightmares were even less common. For centuries, the Omniscien people didn't even know that nightmares were possible.

Now that you've started, get to work, these Omniscien sound interesting.
One question - why do you say Epilogue? A book is supposed to start with a prologue. What am I missing?
