Coal Seam Gas, Good Or Bad?

in #story8 years ago

I work in the Gas industry and I am shocked at what the companies around the world get away with when it comes to managing the impact that their activities have on the environment.

I am currently working in Australia where we build and maintain the dams where all the water from the wells get stored. Now there are alot of regulations and laws that need to be followed when it comes to drilling wells, storing/treating water and managing the impact on ther environment.

The problem is that I just dont see anyone enforcing these rules. I have seen water being pumped into dams that clearly have very harmfull chemicals used for fracking in it, which is supposed to be banned in Australia. If you ask questions or mention it to anyone, you are told to keep quiet and not make a big deal out of it if you want to keep your job.

We clear alot of land to make room for more expansion and there seems to be no stopping in the near future.

The thing that bothers me the most is that we have no idea of what the longterm affects of all this is going to be.

What is your take on CSG, is it good or bad?
