Forever And For Always
He knew he would be with her forever and for always…

It all started off as his usual everyday routine in the hospital: doing check-ups, prescribing medications to patients and probably tending to a few emergencies every now and then. It was past nine and he was getting ready to go home after his last appointment with a patient… or so he thought. There was a knock on the door, it was his receptionist,
“Sir, I’m afraid there is an unexpected patient waiting for you.”
“Tell them to make an appointment for tomorrow, I’m about to leave.”
“But sir, the father demands to see you right now. He’s willing to pay more than what you’d expect if you tend to his daughter now.”
He sighed. He was tired but this sounded like an emergency that needed his immediate assistance and if the patient died this very moment, he’d be responsible for it.
“Bring them in.”
A man in his late forties entered the small clinic, a mix of anxiety and determination in his face as he started to speak. “Doctor John Wilson, I heard from a friend that you’re the best doctor in town who could help my daughter,” The man reaches for the business card in his breast pocket and handed it to the doctor, “I’m William Howard from Howard Corporation... My daughter… Please help her.” As soon as he said those words, a girl in a wheelchair, being pushed by who is presumably her mother, enters the clinic.
The girl, no doubt, was very pale and thin. Her lips were cracked and her unkempt hair made it clear that she was bedridden for days. But her eyes… Her eyes were the colour of deep hazel peeking from behind her tangled dirty blonde hair.
Forest green eyes met hazel and his heart skipped a beat from the sudden contact. It was there and then that he knew he was in love.
“I’m Abigail Howard. I leave my life into your care.”
“I shall do my very best.”
The doctor started to do his work. He researched any possible cures for this unknown disease Abigail has had ever since she was a child. Operation by operation, medicine by medicine, but her condition only came to grow worse. Dr. Wilson wasn’t at all disheartened, he didn’t lose hope. He would often tell her jokes and stories of his unusual encounter with other patients at the hospital. She’d laugh and he could feel renewed strength within him. However, his attempts to cure his beloved where all for naught because by midnight, Abigail died.
Even though he failed, the doctor still received the amount promised to him by Mr. Howard but he didn’t know if he should be satisfied with just the money. He wanted Abigail back. He wanted his beloved back. It had been a few months after Abigail’s death but his memories of her were fresh. He could still see her smile, hear her laugh...
By nightfall, he couldn’t sleep. He could hear her. He could clearly hear his beloved Abigail calling him from beyond the grave. He then realized that just as he was longing for her, she was longing for him, too. He stood up, got dressed, and drove towards the graveyard where among the gravestones stood a lone, beige-coated mausoleum where his dear Abigail was buried along with her ancestors. He walked towards it, Abigail’s cry of loneliness getting louder as he grew nearer. He stopped in front of the large gate that was locked shut with chains and a huge padlock. Such a small obstacle could not stop him from comforting his love.
When he had finally opened the gate, he wasted no time and ran towards where Abigail’s corpse lay wrapped in fine linen. He carefully undid the linen which revealed the girl’s corpse in the flesh. For him, she was as beautiful as when she was living. The doctor lovingly smiled at the corpse,
“Don’t worry, love, I’m here now.”
