Asteroid hazard ONLINE!

in #story7 years ago

That as they say it's a sin to hide, we all are afraid of asteroids, no no, and yes, we'll look into the sky in impotent rage, whether there is flying there ...

The organization called NASA, filed a very interesting online service called: "Project Sentry." A project is planned for the operational monitoring of near-Earth, potentially dangerous and not very, objects. It was launched already in the distant 2002 and basically automated.
New asteroids and asteroids are constantly on the list, their list is regularly updated and objects are monitored (so-called control).

Objects near the ground constantly endanger our planet.

Their huge number, at the moment the figure fluctuates in the limit of ~ 15000 units. The figure of 15000 means that something less dangerous to us will still arrive and it's just a matter of time and we need to be prepared for the consequences.

An asteroid with a diameter of less than 25 meters will completely burn in the atmosphere and poses no threat to us.

An asteroid with a diameter of 150 meters will make more noise on the ground than the largest atomic bomb.

An asteroid with a diameter of 300 meters has an energy exceeding the largest atomic bomb by 20 times!

An asteroid with a diameter of 10 kilometers ... even scary to imagine what will happen.

Fortunately, such events do not occur often, the 150-meter fall on average once in 16,000 years, 300 meters every 72,000 years, 1 km fall once in 440000 years. But the whole intrigue is that we still do not know when such a gift will arrive to us.

RISK DISPLAY (tyts)

This page displays tracked asteroids and tells us information about them. It contains information about newly discovered asteroids, after additional observations are made, the asteroid can be removed from here as not posing a danger, as in this list there are permanent residents with a low, but not zero probability of exposure in the future.

SCALE Torino (tyts)

This page shows the power of impact, effect and danger. The scale ranges from 0 to 10. Most of the values are indicated as practically zero, these asteroids either do not collide with the ground or will burn in its atmosphere. The value "3" means the probability of a collision requiring additional attention from astronomers, but is usually revalued to zero. A value of "6" means a global catastrophe. The value "10" does not need comments.

THE SCALE OF PALERMO

The Palermo scale is for the most part a computational technique and is of more importance for scientists. She estimates the potential danger of falling to the ground of an asteroid.

Now kittens, you are ready for any near-earth non-tourists !!!
