RE: My Town and The Courthouse Massacre of 1912 - Hillsville, VA Part II
A great finish to the story.
I own a model 1897 Winchester shotgun. 12 gauge, improved modified. It's been in our family since new. I used a full choke for hunting birds, apparently my great uncle liked a bigger pattern.
Thanks for a really wonderful historical post. I really like it!
Thanks very much, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
That shotgun sounds great, I have an old octagonal barrel rifle and shotgun from my grandfather, but the rifle needs a lot of work. He also left me a browning sweet 16 shotgun which I love. I can remember my grandfather, me and two cousins basically walking off 100 yards and sitting in a circle shooting doves in the middle of the field. We were just far enough apart that the pellets didn't hurt when we shot at each other. Seems crazy when I think about it today but we would shoot more than a case of shells and bring home around 100 doves every year. Good times.
