Terrified and running from the law or was it from the bad guys, I never knew!

How it all began:

In the bathroom of a friend’s rented ground-floor apartment, I heard someone outside in the lane, talking loudly, “If you find him, don’t let him go!” 

Innocently going out of the apartment to see what was happening, I saw a big well-set man, with his back to me. I noted the back of his head and his hair was closely shaved.  

And he was seriously looking back and forth, up and down the narrow lane.

And understand the scene before me, this complex was a tightly close-built place.  

The lane was more like a corridor, with white washed paint, on windowless cement block walls, both sides. Even the floor of the corridor lane was of light-grey cement. 

Everywhere it was bare, nothing, not even a pot of flowers… except this one man. 

Somehow I realized I was in great danger, but didn’t know what to do.  

You see, I had stepped out into the lane, with a wrought-iron gate just behind me. I couldn’t remember if the gate was properly closed. I truly felt exposed. 

All the same, if I tried to re-enter the building, maybe the gate would make a noise and the guy would hear me. What if he turned around and saw me?! What then? 

Now I was really scared:

Twixt-between what to do or not to do, time seemed to stand still and lengthen out. Any moment the man could turn and see me. I had to do something… and very quickly. 

Turned right and ran as fast as I could out of the narrow lane and down the open road alongside the complex and community houses. 

The chap was running after me

And I was aware he was gaining on me. I had to do something to avoid being caught. 

After a short space of time, I noticed there was a bushy area to the right of me. Maybe here was my chance, so I ducked and rolled quickly for cover. 

He was running so fast, his momentum took him further on, past the woodland, where I was lying. 

I realized it wouldn’t be long before he would turn back and see me. 

And he did, and there I was, somewhat exposed, my cover wasn’t quite dense enough and he could see me. Wow, now I was in for it! 

He blew his whistle and quickly his mates joined the ranks. 

That gave me time to get up and run into the forest and undergrowth. I now was a hunted man with a slim chance of getting away. 

I heard shouts coming up behind me, “Be careful, he sure to have a gun!” 

And another person was cursing, “And the swine may still have drugs on him too!” 

Wow, and I did!

I had my medication in my trouser pocket! 

And a gun for safety! I had no car that day, and knew I had to return home through a bad area. 

Talk about luck, for an innocent guy! If they found that on me, they would instantly believe I was the real guy they were hunting down! 

The judgement would be: Found guilty before charged. 

So what did I do: I quickly swallowed my meds and threw my gun under the nearest thick bush, not before taking careful note of the place! 

Ducking and diving:

Here and there I ran, hoping to lose my hunters. Getting exhausted, I finally fall through some bushes and landed on an open glade area. 

Looking around I saw it was a picnic spot. Can you believe it?! 

Here was my chance, perhaps I could act like I was on a picnic too. Slowing down I looked for someone I may know. 

And I did, thank goodness. Smiling sweetly I approached and declared I was so pleased to see them. But they didn’t know how much! 

Sitting down with them, I turned to watch the hunting party coming out the forest, searching this way and that way for their man. 

With nerves of steel I acted calm, chatting, like I had been with my friends forever! Never a dull moment in one’s life! 

What was that?!

Maybe you thought I’m a good story teller? 

But in reality, thankfully that was only a dream I had last night!!!
