In ancient times in Pasundan area there was a king named Prabu Tapak Agung. He led his territory very wisely, so loved by his people. The king has two beautiful daughters. The eldest named Purbararang, and his sister named Purbasari.
One day, as he neared the end of his life, the king asked Purbasari his youngest daughter to take his place in the kingdom. "My son, I'm tired and too old to lead, so it's time I descended," said the king. Purbararang, who is the elder brother of Purbasari, disagrees with his father's orders. He feels that because he is the eldest, he is the one who should replace his father's position as royal leader.
Purbararang is very furious and jealous of it then plans to harm his sister. Purbararang went to see a witch. He asks the witch for her sister's spell. The consequence of the witch's spell was quite severe. Purbasari suddenly his skin became spotted with black spots, and that was what Purbararang made an excuse to throw him out of the palace. "Go away from here!" Purbararang told his sister. "People who have been cursed like you do not deserve to be a queen, do not even deserve to live here!" he continued.
Purbararang then told a Patih to alienate his sister into the middle of the forest. With a heavy heart, Patih obeyed his command. However, in the middle of the forest, the kindly Patih did not immediately leave him. He built a hut for Purbasari. Before leaving, he also advised the poor princess, asking her to be steadfast and patient.
During his stay in the forest, Purbasari never felt lonely. The kind-hearted princess befriends many animals, which is also always good to her. Among the hundreds of animals that became his friends, there was a monkey with a mysterious black hair. Among other animals, the monkey is the most considerate and kindest to Purbasari. The monkeys often even bring flowers and fruits to entertain the heart of the princess. Purbasari then gave the name of the monkey Lutung Kasarung.
One night, during the full moon, the macaque friend of Purbasari went to a quiet place to meditate. After quite a long time meditating, suddenly the land near the place meditate began to emit clear and fragrant water, which then formed a small lake.
The next day, the monkey asked Purbasari to bathe in the small lake. Despite his initial hesitation, Purbasari obeyed his request. The miraculous thing happened. After bathing, Purbasari skin suddenly become clean as before. The princess became beautiful as ever. Purbasari was very surprised and very happy because his beauty had recovered.
On the same day, the evil Purbararang suddenly intends to see the condition of his sister in the forest. He went to the forest with his fiancé and some royal guards. When looking at the condition of his sister who was back beautiful, Purbararang shocked. But the evil princess did not give up. She took her sister to a long haircut. Who has longer hair, he is the one who wins. Apparently, Purbasari's hair is longer, so she's the one who won.
Purbararang still has not given up. He then invited Purbasari to a handsome fiancée, then showed him a handsome fiancee. Purbasari is confused because she does not have a fiancee. He immediately pulled his friend's monkey. Purbararang laughed out loud at that. "So your fiance is a monkey?" ledeknya with cynical.
Suddenly there was a miracle. The monkey of Purbasari's companions turned into a handsome and handsome young man, far more handsome than Purbararang's fiancee. The guards who saw it were amazed and cheered as the kind daughter won. Purbararang confesses defeat, admits his mistake, and apologizes. The benevolent Purbasari is not revenge and does not punish his evil brother.
Purbasari then becomes a queen who leads his kingdom wisely, accompanied by a young idol of his heart, who used to always accompany him faithfully in the form of a monkey.
