RE: You Don't Need Words to Tell a Story
I'm sorry I missed the payout for this one, I'll hit you on a newer post but I wanted to say I really like this idea you're talking about.
I recently was watching some video on oral language verses SPELLing - in the English language particularly - and they made some interesting points on earlier written languages and how it was much more visually centered. Symbols were given entire words or certain sounds, not broken down into letters like we do now. I thought it was very interesting.. it made me think about how the left brain over takes conscious processing, and I think this is reflected in society too.
We have broken up the whole and the pieces just don't equal the weight of the connected unit.. We've dumbed down communication to make it quicker, more streamlined, more efficient but you can't take do that to the brain or you end up cutting out empathy, love, appreciation of beauty, art.. all those things are pointless in the left-brain's industrial processing machine. I hope more people will start telling stories again.
