Baby Punisher (Original short story)
Boston is a place where everything has a price. Here you can have as much sex, drugs and rock'n'roll as Metallica did in the 80's as long as you have cash. For 10 $ you can buy love from a heavily used bimbo with 3 teeth and 8 fingers. For extra 5 $ she'll give you some funny pills that will get you high, but in the morning you'll vomit out your liver. It's the real crown of America's criminal world, but the biggest jewel in that crown is a baby mafia. Creeping in the shadows are toddlers running the operations. Guns, whores, drugs, they have everything, they own everything, they make all the profits. I spend years investigating them on my own. It took a lot of work and a lot of money, but since they killed my wife I had both. I ain't a good guy. I just want my revenge. My hands have much blood on them, but it's baby blood, so it washes of easily.
My heart was beating like an engine, while I was observing the street. I was focused, I was ready, I knew that in a minute a black Limousine will appear and then I'll have my only chance to end this. I had many leads, but all of them got me nowhere, except one. This one kid told me everything I needed to know. It wasn't easy though. I was lucky that this one was old enough that he could speak. Others were only drooling on my floor or crying as I was breaking their toys. He told me that his boss will be driving past this spot at this exact moment.
My eyes are moving like rabbits on cocaine, watching every car passing by, looking for that one.
I'm affraid to blink. I'm affraid that if I blink, I'll miss my chance. My feet hurt from standing here so long.
Then, a black shape appeared on the horizon. Massive black car with tinted windows and a shining silver rims.
Adrenaline hit my mind like a warhammer, my muscles exploded with a burning desire to kill. I runned across the street to stand in a way of a car, but it wasn't slowing down. I shivered in fear, but I knew that it has to end today.
My hand was shaking as I pulled out my grandfathers anti-tank sniper rifle, but the though that I'll finally get my piece of mind after I'll kill that bastard, was giving me strenght.
Bang! First shot hit the engine. The hood flied through the air as flames bursted from car's front.
Bang! Second one must have hit the driver. The black window didn't shattered, but I could see that no was controling the vehicle anymore. Two tons of metal were swinging from right to left, from left to right, until the car hit a hydrant and stoped.
The water mixed with blood and a occasional piece of brain run trough the street as I walked towards wreckage.
I knew that in a few seconds it will be over. I'll be at peace and the mafia will be crippled. I smiled, for the first time since I held my dying wife in my hands. The sound of my footsteps on water sounded like a cheering stadium waiting for me to pull the trigger. I opened the doors, and I saw, that inside, there was no baby. Inside there was a terrified woman crying in fear.
Is it a different car? Did a made a mistake? What was going on?! I screamed in rage. What did I do wrong? What did I miss?! Unless... Unless...
Then, in an instant. Everything made sense. I couldn't find him for months, because I was trying to find a baby, however the clever bastard was not even born yet! This is why nobody knew what he looked like. He was fooling me for months, but now I was the one with better cards.
I looked at her. She had a visible sign of pregnancy, but I had to be sure.
-You're pregnant? - I asked while pointing the gun at her.
-Y-Yes... 6 months pregnant... - her voice was shaking in fear. - I know he's evil... but... but please...please... let him live.
I knew it wasn't the best way to end it. I could try something else, but police doesn't arrest babies and most of the police department was on his payroll anyway. I looked her in the eyes, grabbed her hand and said:
-Maybe next one will be better. But this one, won a free abortion.
